Zhenhai District

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Zhenhai District (simplified Chinese: 镇海区; traditional Chinese: 鎮海區; pinyin: Zhènhǎi Qū; Wade-Giles: Chen-Hai) is a district of China, located to the mouth of the Yongjiang River. It is 12 miles north-east of Ningbo. It lies at the foot of a hill on a tongue of land, and is partly protected from the sea on the north by a dike about 3 miles long, composed entirely of large blocks of granite. It has a population of 200,000. Its jurisdiction encompasses 2 towns and 4 neighbourhoods.

The Zhenhai Coastal Battery is the site of the Chinese naval victory in the Battle of Zhenhai in the Sino-French War.
