Zhambyl Zhabaev
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Zhambyl Zhabayev, Kazakh: Жамбыл Жабаев, Jambul Jabayev (b. 28 February 1846 in Semirechye, d. 22 June 1945 in Alma-Ata) was a Kazakh traditional folksinger (Kazakh: akyn).
While Zhabayev was a real person, a number of Soviet-patriotic, pro-revolution and pro-Stalin poems and songs were falsely attributed to him in the 1920s and 1930s and widely circulated in the Soviet Union. Those were actually written in Russia, by Russians, but labeled as translations from the Kazakh.[citation needed]
