[edit] Personal

I live in South Australia and have visited most Australian states, plus several other countries (including four years in Glasgow, Scotland as a child). I spent most of my school years on Yorke Peninsula where I never ate any snails. I majored in computer science at Flinders University and also took subjects in such things as linguistics and creative writing. Many of my interests have to do with creativity, and many others have to do with science. I play keyboard, and like to improvise. You can find examples of my creativity and the folk music I listen to, among other things, on my website.

I recently started a blog. The archives go back to 10 October 2006, and the entries cover various aspects of my life, present and past.

Wikipedia users I know (at least through the Internet) include Daibhid C and Itai. I welcome contact from people who suspect they share my interests or outlooks on life, of which this page will never be a comprehensive list.

[edit] Editing habits and history

Not all of my edits can be found under this name, as early on I edited a number of pages as an anonymous user with a dynamic ISP. Sometimes I edit articles relating to subjects I am keenly interested in, but I often prefer to edit trivia instead. Here are descriptions of some of my more significant edits:

[edit] Article edits

  • Expanding the marker pen article to include a section on how the terminology for different types of marker differs around the world.
  • Editing the template that generates the infobox for Australian states (such as South Australia) to add a section for state emblems. In a second edit, I rearranged the information on the infobox to keep related data adjacent.
  • Reorganising the tropical cyclone article so that the sections proceed in a more logical order and people can more easily find the information they want (more info on details page).
  • Starting the nominal TAM article. This is the first major edit I've made on a subject that really interests me.
  • Modifying the articles on ornamentation and improvisation to acknowledge improvised ornaments as part of traditional Irish music. This was the first time I used a citation template. Later, I made substantial edits to the article on Irish sean nós singing.
  • Attempting to add a better and more global perspective to the article on puddings, and grouping links.

[edit] Meta edits

  • Trying to make constructive contributions regarding the userbox saga including a major structural edit of the main userboxes page (on 16 May 2006), and later, inventing User pages displaying userboxes and corresponding code (and subcategories) to assist people in sharing userboxes while sidestepping the present controversy (this was later moved by others to Category:Original Wikipedian userboxes).
