Zephyr Field
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Zephyr Field is home to the New Orleans Zephyrs, the Triple-A affiliate of the New York Mets Major League Baseball team. Opened in 1997 in Metairie (Jefferson Parish), a suburb of New Orleans, the stadium seats 11,000 fans. Previous to this, the Zephyrs played at Privateer Park on the campus of the University of New Orleans.
On September 3, 2005, FEMA director Mike Brown announced that, in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, Zephyr Field would be used as a military hospital.
The park frequently hosts Tulane University games. The Green Wave has played annual games against cross-town rival University of New Orleans at the stadium, as well as home games against archrival LSU. During the 2006 and 2007 baseball seasons, Zephyr Field was the primary home of the Green Wave, as Tulane's on-campus facility, Greer Field at Turchin Stadium was undergoing renovations. The renovations were scheduled to be completed in time for the 2006 season, but Hurricane Katrina significantly damaged Turchin Stadium, forcing a delay for the renovation project.
Several scenes in the movie Mr. 3000 were filmed at Zephyr Field. A baseball scene from Failure to Launch was also filmed at the stadium. Part of an episode of Spike TV's Pros vs Joes was also filmed there.
