[edit] Four-minute mile
If you see some obvious vandalism in an article, first check the history, it is likely that a vandal changed something in the article. Rather than just deleting the vandal statement, revert to the last good version, otherwise the original statement will be lost. Qutezuce 06:22, 7 May 2006 (UTC)
[edit] FLCL and the IMDb
It was me who put the reference to the Top 250 in there, and since that seems to have generated a fair amount of annoyance: sorry. Based on what I know of the IMDb's filtering system (which I admit is not much) I was under the working assumption that, if (V) titles were allowed, it would rank very near the top. You do say one thing I didn't know at all, though: that only the Top 1000 voters are counted. The rules say "regular voters" - are the Top 1000 the only people 'regular' enough to be counted? -Litefantastic 23:19, 8 May 2006 (UTC)
- Oops, I see it was SeizureDog who said that. Anyway: sorry for the inconvience; I do the best I can with my edits. -Litefantastic 23:24, 8 May 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Lemon Jelly samples
I found a list on the Lemon Jelly forums - someone had put together a playlist of all the tracks they've sampled. There are some tracks listed from their other releases as well, I just did 64-95 first as it's my favourite! Habasi 18:28, 22 May 2006 (UTC)
- The other samples that were listed (though I'm not sure how best to get this info into wikipedia) are "Do Or Die Bed Sty" by Divine Sounds on the track "Baby Battle Scratch, and from the song "Peaches" by Presidents of the United States of America on "The Fruity Track" - they were the B-sides on the single release of "Stay With You".
[edit] Need help concerning redirects.
- Anything particular on redirects or just general? --pgk(talk) 19:41, 26 May 2006 (UTC)
- WP:REDIRECT should cover it. But be careful if you want to move an article to a new name, use the move function and it'll create the redirect for you, don't be tempted to do a cut and paste of the text to the new location and create a redirect yourself, since this leave the history of edits with the redirect rather than the content. --pgk(talk) 19:43, 26 May 2006 (UTC)
Well, I read this page and I'm still a bit confused. Recently, I changed instances such [[Tokyo Disneysea]], [[Tokyo Disney Sea]], etc. to be the correct Tokyo DisneySea. Basically, I figured that pages referring to Tokyo DisneySea should have the correct spelling.
I don't think this fits under the headline Don't fix links to redirects that aren't broken, since it was essentially a spelling change. Is this correct?
Also, what would fit under this "not broken" category? Zepheus 20:01, 26 May 2006 (UTC)
You should be okay if it is a spelling change. That above rule doesn't apply in that case. --Pilot|guy 20:14, 26 May 2006 (UTC)
- An example would be say where there are multiple correct spellings of a word (e.g. British English Colour and American English Color), alternate expressions which mean the same thing, full and short versions of a name. So say we had an article Johnathan Smith and a redirect to it as John Smith. There would be no need to go and change all instances of John Smith to Johnathan Smith. The change you describe sounds ok to me, that is really more of a guide than a hard and fast rule. --pgk(talk) 20:16, 26 May 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Thanks
Thanks for the kind comment you left on my user page regarding the AfD we both commented on. But you were right in bringing my lack of clarity to my attention. You are also right about a general "looseness" of language and thought that seem to afflict so many people. We can all be guilty of this at times.

[edit] table wikification.
Is there a list somewhere showing pages that have HTML tables needing wikification? Zepheus 01:46, 29 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] image cleanup.
I looked around for an appropriate tag but could not find it. Is there a way to tag images that probably have no use on Wikipedia for possible deletion, such as this one:Image:Photo07 3A.jpg? I think this person is just using Wikipedia as an image host. It's also the source of the user's only two edits to Wikipedia. Zepheus 00:28, 30 May 2006 (UTC)
- There sure is. :) Images for deletion has more information on listing images and other media for deletion. Please check out that page for instructions and guidelines, to decide what course of action/tag seems most appropriate. I hope this helps, and thanks for working on Wikipedia! —PaperTruths(Talk) 00:42, 30 May 2006 (UTC)

- Boy, you said it. Have you ever checked out the IRC channel, #wikipedia-bootcamp? I hang out there quite a bit. Aside from being the place new help desk and {{helpme}} notices pop up, it's a great place to go for quick answers to questions. I've found it to be an invaluable resource. :D —PaperTruths(Talk) 05:33, 30 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Rudy Colombini
I see you're involved with the cleanup project. I wonder if you could look into a few more Rudy Colombini articles, Music City SF and San Francisco Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Both of these facilities seem to be in the planning or construction stages and not open to the public, and therefore are not currently encyclopedic topics. I think they should be prodded or AfD'd but I'm going to be away from Wikipedia for the next several weeks so can't participate in that. It would be good to document any discoveries in one place, maybe Talk:Rudy Colombini. Thanks.Phr (talk) 22:45, 30 May 2006 (UTC)
- Do you mean part of the Cleanup Taskforce? I sure am. Yeah, I'll look into these pages, which look pretty obviously like vanity pages right now (fairly well-made vanity pages though). I'll look into them later at around 2:00 UTC, and AfD them if need be. If I find anything out about these projects, I'll put it on the Rudy Colombini talk page, and I'll put links to that page from the other talk pages. I guess you can check it all out upon your return. - Zepheus 23:01, 30 May 2006 (UTC)
- OK. If you're up for it, since you're in that neighborhood, you might walk past the supposed site of Music City and check it out if the occasion demands it. I prodded both those pages but maybe you can keep an eye on them or AfD them. If there's an AfD please leave a comment for the closing admin that I'd like to leave an "absentee vote" for deletion, if possible. I really gotta get out of here now ;). Phr (talk) 23:25, 30 May 2006 (UTC)
- Yes. I'll absolutely mention you in the AfD at the least. - Zepheus 23:29, 30 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Cleanup help.
I would like to start a cleanup project on the page The X-Files. I believe it needs a lot of work to get in line with Wikipedia's standards. I have 3 queries:
- I have noticed that some pages have a template on them saying that the page is undergoing major cleanup. Do these need to be nominated or can I just put it up there.
- Furthermore, I made a large list of edits that I feel need to be made on the talk page. It takes up a lot of the talk page, and I have the feeling if many people make comments, it will get unruly fast. Is it possible/allowable for me to make a subpage where these can go? Thanks in advance for your help.
- Try asking in Pilocy Village Pump. -- ∞Wirelain 16:45, 1 June 2006 (UTC)
- Where can I post this cleanup project in order to get others involved? - Zepheus 16:37, 1 June 2006 (UTC)
- Well you have a great many choices, but Wikipedia:Community Portal seems like a good place to start. -- ∞Wirelain 16:45, 1 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] trivia.
Where can I find Wikipedia's stance on trivia? - Zepheus 03:27, 8 June 2006 (UTC)
- There is no official page on trivia, and it's a debated subject, but generally it's best for an article not to have it. --Rory096 03:39, 8 June 2006 (UTC)
I'm trying to move and remove it a piece at a time on The X-Files page, so that people don't get upset and its disappearance. - Zepheus 03:40, 8 June 2006 (UTC)
- You could try putting the facts in encyclopedic format, such that it isn't lists of trivia, but the facts aren't discarded. Also, when removing content, you can put the removed content on the talk page and explain why you removed it. Then if people are upset, they can talk about how upset they are and not edit war about it. :] --Keitei (talk) 03:43, 8 June 2006 (UTC)
I'm trying to move as much useful info as I can to the appropriate section of the article (or to another existing article). I'll put the others on the talk page. Thanks for the suggestion. - Zepheus 03:49, 8 June 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Copyright Violation in Mercury-Redstone 4
I noticed your tag was saying that content of aforesaid article violated the copyright of a website. This website was part of NASA. NASA copyright policy is that they do not assert copyright over their works, and thus, there is no violation. If you know something I don't, please let me know. Thanks: GW_Simulations|User Page | Talk | Contribs | E-mail 19:09, 9 June 2006 (UTC)
- Okay. Sorry about that. I didn't realize that. I guess that's why small TV stations usually fill dead-time with NASA footage. Nevertheless, I think that page needs to be wikified a bit (at least in terms of links). - Zepheus 19:42, 9 June 2006 (UTC)
- That's fine. I have reverted the page, and posted a note on the copyright violations page explaining this. --GW_Simulations|User Page | Talk | Contribs | E-mail 20:04, 9 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] X-Files and Shakespeare
Hello, why did you remove the Shakespeare reference? Bkl
- Because it was a reference to Shakespeare from a single episode (as far as I could tell). Shakespeare does not play a large part in The X-Files, and is not a major influence. If we put in every show, playwright or poet that the was referenced or quoted, this page would be huge. We've just gone through a major overhaul of the page and are trying to keep it clean, organized and relevant. - Zepheus 18:55, 21 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] emeryville
well i think an aerial shot of the city, even if its foggy/hazy like sf bay weather is about 80% of the time is great for the top of the page. what i ment by dumb fuck id that only a dumb fuck would replace a (and ill admit it) perhaps adequate or mediocre picture in an incomplete and under construction info box and replace it with nothing.. that takes away from the article and it wasnt friggin unencyclopedic and dont fuckin waste my time with a link to a page that says ñañañañaña yeah it is unencyclopedic so thats immature. but ok dude how bout the picture of the big white building or just the original pic, would one of those do, or maybe repaet the on pic for the infobox pic? im sorry about my dumbass rhetoric, it was rude even thought i was intended to keep upbeat and cooperative. sowies. and hahha serves me right with the oppose vote. but be real with me, and yeah i didnt know u wanted to get it into mediation, just tell me in the future dude Qrc2006 17:21, 7 September 2006 (UTC)
[edit] uncivil user.
Whoever comes to help, thankyou in advance. I have been dealing with an uncivil user, and looking at his talk page, I can see that he has been rude and derogatory to many other people as well. Other users have directed him to WP:Civil and I myself have shown him Wikipedia:Assume good faith because of a comment he made regarding one of my edits (in an edit summary no less).
I'm wondering what I can do about this user. I doubt that he's going to change his attitude and some users consider many of his edits vandalism. - Zepheus (ツィフィアス) 18:24, 2 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Emeryville
Hi, thanks for your msg. I think your way of lookin at city articles as intrinsically current is intriguing. I'm fine with current economy reports, but I don't think sweeping descriptors like "booming" or "in decline" should be in the first few words of the first section. Bwithh 20:04, 8 September 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Alien
I removed the tags because they seemed kinda redundant. The trivia section now is just a temporary storage place for information that needs to go into an as-yet uncreated section of the article. A cleanup tag is unnecessary (the section isn't that large) and as for citing sources, the entries can be cited once they fit into the article, as citing them in a trivia section is also redundant.--Dark Kubrick 15:27, 23 September 2006 (UTC)
