[edit] Part of interwikitmp-grp

Hi! re: Tfd: W2c... This is part of the nascent Wikipedia:WikiProject template sharing, and another two we've never quite dignified with a name or formal write up yet. This is quite useful for refering to commons locations in documentation or templates that need work on all sisters, no matter which sister such is copied too. Such work is too time intensive as it is.

Unlike most sister projects the commons does NOT have an abbreviation which works on itself like [[W:whatever ]]. Ral315 discovered 'W2' is much the same nightmare, and for similar reasons, this one best not be messed with... not to mention all the templates it will break. No reason to create work. Suggest you unnominate it ASAP. Thanks. Best regards. // FrankB 05:07, 11 February 2007 (UTC)

Okay... but Ral315 has voted to delete W2c. In any event, the reason I nominated it was that the only textual content was "To be deleted." This, combined with the cryptic name, suggested that the whole thing was an abandoned newbie experiment. I now know this isn't the case, but the discussion that's happening is at least getting your nascent project some popularity; it spurred you to put some documentation and removed the confusing "To be deleted" bit; and the TfD discussion may well generate new ideas.
Given the lively and not one-sided debate that has emerged, I think I'll decline to unnominate the template. I am sorry, though, if I've inconvenienced your project. --zenohockey 23:08, 11 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] BKSP

Hi, I saw you marked [1] as ambigious. Why? --Soman 10:27, 12 March 2007 (UTC)

It actually wasn't that link I was concerned about: it was the link to SDAP, which is a disambig. to four different SDAPs. My initial edit probably made that clearer, but I switched the order of the superscript and the disambig tag because I thought it looked better. I'll go change the order back to clarify the situation. --zenohockey 17:04, 12 March 2007 (UTC)
Ok, no problem. --Soman 17:27, 12 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Help populate novel list?

I'm soliciting assistance in populating the page List of novels by point of view. Would you consider pitching in? Thank you! --TheEditrix2 15:46, 22 March 2007 (UTC)

When I get the chance, sure, I'll help. (As an aside, this looks like the sort of article that needs strict length guidelines right off the bat [e.g., 10 highly recognizable novels per POV], lest people add their favorite novels willy-nilly, like a "Quotes" section in a Simpsons episode article...) --zenohockey 22:21, 24 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Bush v. Gore

I provided some additional information and a link that may interest you in response to your question at the reference desk. Regards, Newyorkbrad 14:05, 31 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Good catch

Thanks for fixing these.[2][3] Postdlf 21:26, 13 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Hitler

Should I add full information for all the cites for that book, or just the first one? That appears to be the model set with Joseph Goebbels. --Lenin and McCarthy | (Complain here) 03:27, 17 April 2007 (UTC)

I think having the information in the first cite suffices. One of the footnotes is an "op cit." with just the author's name; that would work too. --zenohockey 04:05, 17 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] South Africa

Why did you do this? Picaroon (Talk) 21:09, 16 May 2007 (UTC)

Because the first item in that list did not display with the namespace, I figured the WikiProject SA one shouldn't either. There's no reason for one to display it and the other not to. --zenohockey 23:22, 16 May 2007 (UTC)
Probably because I was looking at the first item in that list, which was in fact South America, while typing... As it went a week without anyone noticing, hopefully it didn't confuse anyone. --zenohockey 23:26, 16 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Covais IPA

For [z] or [s], it's really dependent on the person. I normally lenghthen to a [z] after diphthongs, but I sometimes use [s]. It doesn't really matter which is used considering that they're allophones. Geoking66 03:27, 20 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] McReynolds copyediting

Thank you for the copyediting on the McReynolds article; I know how annoying those little edits can be. For what it is worth, I was always told that in citations, "pp" stood for "printed page" or "printed pages", to distinguish from numbering of pages in manuscripts or other works. In any case, thank you. Magidin 15:27, 23 May 2007 (UTC)

Huh. The American Heritage Dictionary says it's "pages", so I'm definitely not making it up... But anyway, you're welcome. I live for those little edits. :) --zenohockey 17:51, 23 May 2007 (UTC)
I know you're not making it up. I checked myself, and you were right; now I know better. In fact, I went through and made the change also in the few that you missed. Magidin 18:18, 23 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Re: Image:EricHarris-DylanKlebold.jpg

[edit] Orphaned non-free image (Image:M 685833 200.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:M 685833 200.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 05:04, 29 June 2007 (UTC)

The article it used to be in was deleted. (I know you won't read this, bot; just so I know this message has been assiduously glanced at). --zenohockey 05:10, 29 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] DC Meetup notice

Greetings. There is going to be a Washington DC Wikipedia meetup on next Saturday, July 21st at 5pm in DC. Since you are listed in Category:Wikipedians_in_Maryland, I thought I'd invite you to come. I'm sorry about the short notice for the meeting. Hopefully we'll do somewhat better in that regard next time. If you can't come but want to make sure that you are informed of future meetings be sure to list yourself under "but let me know about future events", and if you don't want to get any future direct notices \(like this one\), you can list yourself under "I'm not interested in attending any others either" on the DC meetup page.--Gmaxwell 00:26, 15 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] "Library websites"

LibraryThing doesn't take data from library *websites*. Websites are built in HTML. We grab stuff from library databases available by Z39.50. It's different. It's like saying that AIM and outlook are websites. Yes, they're part of the INTERNET, but they're not "websites." 24.198.80.98 00:13, 5 September 2007 (UTC)

Point taken. I think I cringed when I saw the terribly nonspecific word "sources." Is this satisfactory? --zenohockey 00:45, 5 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] en dash change

Hi, thanks for clean-up at MOSNUM. Brings up a question I've had for some time: is there any practical difference between using the HTML code for en dashes (if that's what it is, with the &...) and the plain old en dash symbol on my keyboard (–). Seems like a lot of trouble to key in all of those characters and gum up the edit box (esp. for newbies) unless there's a clear advantage. Tony 02:17, 5 September 2007 (UTC)

You have an en-dash on your keyboard? I don't think I've ever seen a keyboard with one. Re your question, I'm no expert on HTML/Unicode issues, but I've never heard a complaint—and seeing as how wikEd (which I use) turns &...s into the actual character with one mouse click, there would be some if it were a problem. --zenohockey 06:18, 6 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Dan Savage

Hey. In one of your Sept 6 edits of the Dan Savage article, you trashed a sentence. Go to the article and find the sentence that includes the string "Tim Keck", in the first section (entitled "Savage Love"). I'd just revert that change of yours, to restore grammaticality, but you obviously had something useful to contribute, so I'll let you figure out how you want to write that. --216.113.208.132 18:22, 11 September 2007 (UTC) (actually a not-logged-in JHolman)

Fixed. Thanks for catching that. --zenohockey 04:23, 12 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Columbine

Just wanted to say that your clean-up on the page looks good. I've had converting the Block references on my long list of things to do, but just could never get my head around doing it. Thanks for doing that!! Wildhartlivie 02:18, 6 October 2007 (UTC)

You're welcome. I used User:cacycle/wikEd for the Block stuff, so it wasn't too taxing. --zenohockey 02:30, 6 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] ISBN

Could you explain what you had in mind here? I'm still not sure what the issue is, and the text you added to the article isn't clear. Was there actually a 10-digit SBN code? If so, it would help if you have a reference for it. The fact that a single publisher believed he could correctly apply a 10-digit code to books doesn't say much beyond the practices of that particular publisher, who could have been mistaken. 22:04, 20 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Removal of category from your userpage

Hi. In enacting consensus from User categories for discussion, I have removed the category Category:Wikipedians interested in books from your userpage. It was determined in that deletion debate that this category should be depopulated of individuals, but kept as a parent category. If you wish to display a category reflecting your interest in books, please consider one of the specific sub-categories under its umbrella. Thanks, and please excuse the necessary editing of your user page! ----Moonriddengirl (talk) 16:07, 23 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Harris and Klebold

I've been through SO many pages of evidence and interviews, and I have never found a reason for the date change anywhere. I think the absence of the reason is the source of so much speculation about their motives and beliefs, including that incessant Hitler's birthday rumor. It would be great if you found something, but I doubt it's out there. Cheers. Wildhartlivie (talk) 04:34, 1 June 2008 (UTC)

Interesting...I'll keep an eye out. In the meantime, I've removed the apparently baseless speculation in that sentence. --zenohockey (talk) 04:54, 1 June 2008 (UTC)
