Is the zend engine a virtual machine?

[edit] Zend Platform

Is Zend Platform and Engine the same? - Viruswitch 12:15, 14 February 2006 (UTC)

Can somebody please move this to Zend Engine? — 68.255.110.127 16:39, 20 February 2006 (UTC)

What language was it developed in? 201.235.33.151 14:58, 2 November 2006 (UTC)

I'm pretty sure that "Zend Engine" is just an interpreter, i don't think it can be called a virtual machine...

Also, should "Zend Performance Suit" redirect to "Zend Engine"? <rafagd[et]gmail[dot]com>201.80.185.200 (talk) 11:40, 17 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] So what the heck does it do?

Currently, the article doesn't answer the most important question a software developer could ask about a piece of an alleged important part of the platform they're developing code on: so what the heck does it do?

Currently, the article states that it's a "Scripting engine" and a "virtual machine" (mentioned almost as an afterthough in the lead!) that's somehow related to PHP, it was written by two guys back in the PHP4 days, it rocked so it became popular, and verily, it is also part of PHP5. The very essence of the program isn't explained all; what is explained that it's part of the whole. Apologies for using such strong words, but this article is pure fluff!

Tell me, please, I'm clueless! What is Zend, when you really think about it? What sort of scripting engine or a virtual machine? How does it do what it does? How does it compare to other scripting engines? --wwwwolf (barks/growls) 17:52, 31 May 2008 (UTC)
