Zekoi

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Zekoi is a marmoset monkey that has a role in The Immortals Quartet by Tamora Pierce. He appears in the third book, Emperor Mage. He was thrown into the river Zekoi, and was saved by Daine Sarrasri. She saved him from some crocodiles. He helps her through her journey in Emperor Mage, but does not appear in the next book. Zek used to have a family but they were all captured with him, and he has no idea where they went. Zek was owned by a child he calls "the Monster boy", who did not look after him very well and put on him a golden collar (which was what came close to drowning him). Zek passionately hates cages, and slave ownership, because they remind him of his capture. By the end of the book he is much happier and has learnt the use of keys, about which he says, "If I'd had keys, I could have saved my family. Next time, I will have keys."
