Ze Whiz Kidz
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Ze Whiz Kidz were a performance art and cabaret group based in Seattle during the mid-1970s. Tomata du Plenty, a performer with the San Francisco group The Cockettes, was the founding member of Ze Whiz Kidz. Other members included Diva La Lume, Louise Lovely, Cha Cha Samoa, Gorilla Rose, Rhina Stone, Palm Springs, Satin Sheets and a huge supporting cast of wannabes. Gorilla Rose once said that to fit everyone claiming to be one of Ze Kidz, "We'd need a stage as big as China".
The first Whiz Kidz show was a musical based on the life of Yma Súmac.
Several early West Coast punk bands emerged out of the breakup of Ze Whiz Kidz. Tomata du Plenty and Melba Toast (Tommy Gear) went on to found The Tupperwares (later The Screamers), while Satin Sheets (J. Satz Baret) went on to form The Knobs (later The Lewd).
