Zbyněk Drda

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Zbyněk Drda, a Czech singer with a tender, melodic voice, was born on March 29, 1987, in Ostrov nad Ohří, a Czech city to the northeast of Karlovy Vary, where he lived for most of his life. His father works in one of the many hotels in a spa and his mother (an indigenous Russian) teaches Russian in a local school. He has an older brother named Svatoslav.

Zbyněk was always very talented, especially when it came to music and sport. His parents didn't lead him to music, but because he was talented, he enlisted in various competitions on his own initiative and he even signed up for a singing class in a local art school. He was also very active in sport. He took karate for nearly nine years and he became a life-guard because of his excellent ability to swim.

In September 2007, he took his leaving examination at his Ekonomic lyceum. He couldn't do it in May because he was already fully involved in "the madness of show-business" and he didn't have enough time to study. By this time, he was living at his temporary address in the center of Prague and he was still trying to gain a stable place in Czech music.
Zbyněk's musical style isn't, as he says himself, strictly specified, but his voice is definitely not made for hard rock or metal. He experiments with pop and pop-rock, swing, jazz, ballads and other genres.
He's currently workin on his second album. It's supposed to be mainly pop-rock, following the same style as his first album. He also joined the sport club "Real Top Prague" which is team of famous people who play various kinds of sports usually for charity or so.

[edit] Musical Path

Although he sang from childhood, he only became famous during the third season of "Česko hledá SuperStar", the Czech version of Pop Idol. His friends already wanted him to try out for the second season, but he decided to wait until he was sure of himself. And it was the best that he could do. Despite bad tongues, he won the third season.

After his victory on December 17, 2006, he started to give interviews, tried to find a band and recorded CD named "Pohled do očí". It was released in April 2007 and sold well. Right after the CD came out, he started to sing at concerts with his new band. Up to date, probably his most successful concert took place on October 10, 2007 at the Theatre of Karlovy Vary.

[edit] Band

Zbyněk's band is partly made up of Zbyněk's close friend Oliver Lipenský, who plays the drums. He studies at the music conservatoire in Prague, where he found the other band members. The oldest is Jan Lstibůrek, who plays the bass-guitar and also has a talent for composing, just like youngest band member, Jan Steinsdorfer, who plays the keyboard and the piano. Last, but not least, is Jakub "Steve" Lenz, who plays the guitar.
