[edit] Welcome

Hi, and welcome to Wikipedia. I noticed your edit to Townline Tunnel, after some some thinking, reverted it. While the stinky hydrogen sulphide smell definitely is present, I found it's mostly at the entrances. It is not that prevalent and most motorists crossing the tunnel likely won't notice it. Pretty much the only reason I know about the smell is because I biked through the tunnel.

Furthermore, I can't recall ever hearing Stinky Tunnel being used to refer to the Townline Tunnel. Since I've only lived here four years, I asked a friend of mine who grew up in Welland, and he never heard it either.

I also don't think that the "trivia" format is the best way to present this information. Also, the fact that the smell exists by itself is not very notable. I do recall reading about the cause of the smell in Lewis' book about Welland's history, but can't remember what it was right now (something to do with the soil, I think...). I'll be re-reading it over the Christmas break, so hopefully I'll add in the comment with some additional information then.

Thanks for the edit anyway. Please do not get discouraged from Wikipedia; if you have any questions, feel free to ask me on my talk page (hints: the + link to the right of edit this page will make a nice new heading, and you can sign your name by typing four tildes: ~~~~).

Thanks again. I hope to see you around! --Qviri 01:07, 16 November 2005 (UTC)
