Zartra was a human female warrior from the pre-cataclysmic Lemurian Isles, about 21,000 years ago. She fled to continent of Atlantis when the Deviants took control of Lemuria. She married King Kamuu, the last human emperor of Atlantis. She was thus empress of Atlantis when Kamuu unwittingly caused Atlantis to be affected by the nuclear cataclysm through which the Celestials were simultaneously sinking Lemuria. Zartra was murdered by an assassin during the sinking of Atlantis caused by the "Great Cataclysm."[1]

Thousands of years later, the spirit of Kamuu visited Namor, modern-day heir to the throne of Atlantis, in his dreams. Kamuu revealed that Morgan le Fay, who Namor was fighting against, was descended from people whose islands had survived the Great Cataclysm. Kamuu warned Namor that Morgan Le Fay sought to raise Atlantis, giving Namor the knowledge to stop her.

[edit] Homo mermanus Atlantis

About 8,000 years ago, a young member of the water-breathing species of humanity called Homo mermanus who also had the name Kamuu had a vision of the original Kamuu and his wife Zartra. The young Kamuu therefore founded the first undersea city of Atlantis on the site of the capital city of the original Atlantis. Kamuu swore that his people would never again be nomads, and restored the glory of the original Atlantis. In that moment, a female homo mermanus named Zartra, daughter of Tanas and Elanna, offered her friendship to Kamuu. Zartra later married Kamuu and became the first empress of undersea Atlantis.
