[edit] History

The first inhabitants of the area were the families that came from Zarouchla in Kalavryta in which it received its name. The area before 1900 were olives and groves in which they farmed. In coordinance with Stefanos Thomopoulos, it was an independent commune in 1928 and changed its name Glafkos from the Glafkos river in which it flows to the south. Zarouchleika was entirely rural and had settlements and rural houses. The areas compromised with olive groves and pastures as well as fruits, vegetables and other crops including tomatoes, potatoes, cucumbers, onions, watermelons, melons and others. Housing developments arrived in the 1960s and the 1980s and it generated a large population growth. Houses were middle density and not as many high density eight-storey buildings. Several factories opened in the southwest and in the 1980s, Veropoulos opened in the western part and in 1995, Praktiker. Shops were added in large numbers. Traffic lights were also installed in the 1980s as well including one near Praktiker.
