[edit] Before the Series
[edit] Hawksong
In Hawksong, Zane is the 20 year old ruler of the serpiente empire, who has been at war with the avians for longer than anyone can remember. After his younger brother is killed on the battle field, Zane feels a need to bring peace to the warring groups, and sets up a meeting with the Mistari rulers to act as mediators while he and the avian princess Danica Shardae try to discuss a way to bring peace they both long for. Throughout the book, Zane unintentionally scares Danica, as serpiente lack the emotional reserve required of avians. In the end, with many trials, Zane and Danica fall in love.
[edit] Snakecharm
Snakecharm is told through Zane's point of view, as he tries to unite two different cultures, the avian and serpiente. He and his pairbond, Danica hope to bring the two worlds together so their unborn daughter will not have to choose between the two lands she will grow up with. During this book, he also must battle his emotions, as the falcons seek to find a falcon criminal, almost destroying Danica and the baby in the process.

Zane is briefly mentioned in Falcondance as Diente (King) of Wyvern's Court

In Wolfcry Zane acts as a concerned parent for his daughter, Oliza, urging her to choose a mate soon to avoid more blood shed between her suitors. However, when Oliza shows her parents her choice, a she-wolf named Betia, he is less than thrilled, until he realizes how much the two care for each other. His final words to Betia are, "Treat her well, wolf."
