[edit] Your edits to Opeth

Hello. I have reverted your edits to Opeth. As you may or may not be aware, the band release an album which contained almost only progressive rock songs called "Damnation" in 2003. Because of that, and also because of the fact that the band and their songs are heavily influenced by progressive rock music, often even displaying so in passages of the songs themselves, the genre should definitely be listed in the box. If you still feel the genre should be removed from the page, please create a section in the articles talk page to contest it, so we can get some opinions. :) ~ | twsx | talkcont | 02:33, 2 September 2007 (UTC)

I see what you mean, but I still believe that the band is progressive metal as a whole. Zanders5k 00:53, 6 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] 30 Seconds to Progressive Rock

My experience is original research, as is yours. However, just for kicks I'm 32 and have been playing guitar and listening to bands like Yes and Rush for the last 20 years as well as Tool since their inception. I have have taken 2 courses in music theory (in high school) as well as music composition (in college). Again, it really doesn't matter because this isn't Citizendium and I could be a 13 year-old girl for all anyone really knows. Seeing as how the band labels themselves as progressive in conjunction with the reliable source I presented on the article discussion page, it's fit for inclusion. I did not see your question as rude, by the way, just irrelevant because experience doesn't necessarily make one smarter or wiser than anyone else. the_undertow talk 02:54, 13 November 2007 (UTC)

I'm glad we're being reasonable. I still don't agree, though. Calling 30StM progressive would require basing this on technicalities. Putting them beside King Crimson or almost any other bands under the label, you can see very clearly that you would have to depend on technicalities to call them the same genre. But I will not argue further, yet, I would like to get more feedback first. Zanders5k 03:16, 13 November 2007 (UTC)
I agree. I don't see them as traditional progressive rock, but based on technicalities, like you said, I think they qualify according to our own wiki. I remember prog rock being the consensus for the page, but consensus can change. I'm really not prone to going against what the band and the label consider to be their genre, although there are certainly a lot of 'emos' in disguise out there. :) the_undertow talk 03:21, 13 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Progressive rock

I was curious about those two links myself. The "march of the mellotrons" one is actually pretty interesting and informative. The other, though, was borderline. Generally, links to forums are verbotten. ---RepublicanJacobiteThe'FortyFive' 03:40, 22 November 2007 (UTC)

I decided that "march of the mellotrons" was worthy of remaining. But I saw no need in linking to a Brazilian prog rock forum that was all in portuguese on the english wikipedia. Zanders5k (talk) 03:51, 22 November 2007 (UTC)
Yes, that makes perfect sense to me. Cheers! ---RepublicanJacobiteThe'FortyFive' 16:27, 25 November 2007 (UTC)
