[edit] Function

Zamzar enables users to type in a URL or upload a file from their computer. It then converts the file to another format. For example, from a flash streaming media file to mp3. Users then receive an email giving them another URL from where they can download the converted file.

[edit] User Privilege Levels

Zamzar is currently free to use. However, users can pay a monthly subscription in order to access preferential features, such as online file management, shorter response and queuing times and other benefits.

[edit] Naming Etymology

Its name comes from the novel the metamorphosis by Franz Kafka. The novel's main character is called Gregor Samsa and it is from his surname that Zamzar derives.
