Zamość Fortress (Polish: Twierdza Zamość) was constructed together with the city of Zamość in the years 1579-1618, by order of Jan Zamoyski. Rebuild and modernized several times, particularly in 1820s, it was an important fortress in Poland, and sustained five serious sieges in the 17th and 18th centuries. It was taken down in 1866, although fragments survive to this day.
