[edit] WP Perth?
Welcome - you might find the scope of WP:WA more to your edits - if you are to add many new stubs (as I saw your breaking off the geology from Darling Scarp) it is important to leave a link to the new article- and possibly a precis of the other articles text... Anyways - hope you enjoy life in wikipedia! cheers SatuSuro 14:56, 21 March 2007 (UTC)

- Btw - very impressed by your crater stubs - excellent - well referenced - however it would do in some of them to have more of a locality as a clarifier in the intro sentence - its meant to be in the arrticle - with no assumption that the reader is going to go further into the links... also if the vagrant issue raising eds ever came across them - that would be their beef probably...
If youre keen I can lead you to a crater article in another state that needs a cleanup... SatuSuro 15:04, 21 March 2007 (UTC)
- Hi SatuSuro, just added myself to the WP:WA project as I hope to continue with editing WA articles. There is a link to Darling Fault in the Darling Scarp article, but yes, I should have put a link in the edit summary, and perhaps my reasons on the new article on the talk page. I'm planning to slowly work my way through the crater articles throughout Australia (yes, a lot need work), and some overseas too. More locality info for the general reader is a good idea, I'll work on that. -Zamphuor 15:27, 21 March 2007 (UTC)
Good on you - the wa project could do with a hell of a lot more geology work. The locality thing can get overdone - one of those that i was just tagging had 2 sets of coords - totally unnecesary, and basically it needs something like:-
- Joes Garage Crater is located on the Muir Highway just 28 km west of Mount Barker, Western Australia. My error was to try merge the Darwin Impact Crater- and Darwin Glass into one last year sometime - they need to prised apart - I wish I could find my piece of darwin glass for a photo! You might (or not) be interested in the West Coast Range and the ancillarry articles for Western Tasmania - a lot of geology stuff needs cleaning up there- anyways, long past bedtime. If youre ever curious - or have any questions - put yourself in the WP WA talk page - most who inhabit the messy talk page are friendly and dont bite - and we are even planning to meet up with Jimbo Wales for breakfast in a months time - you interested? SatuSuro 15:36, 21 March 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks, will look into the possibility of attending Jimbo's breakfast meet. I have some Darwin glass that I could photograph, if you can't find yours, and also know west Tassie well. Been intending to do edits on DG and DC and agree they should be separate. -Zamphuor 15:02, 22 March 2007 (UTC)
- Yo! When I worked in seismic processing - I used to run the officer basin shell data on re-processing on the ancient timaps at GSI - good to see you started that...!SatuSuro 12:38, 27 March 2007 (UTC)
I am less and less satisifed by the darling scarp, darling range (what about the darling plateau?) after seeing your photo go on mount dale - maybe it is separate articles? SatuSuro 12:53, 1 April 2007 (UTC)
-
- My big hold up with developing the darling range art into some substance was my lack of knowledge of the detailed geological explanation! :) I think the article as it is remains could be for the range or the scarp and fault - protocol requires that we make talk page messages about such a change. I must fix my damned talk page- cheers I'm off soon... I hope...SatuSuro 14:13, 1 April 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Welcome
Welcome to the WA project! Always great to see new knowledgeable people signing up :) Shout out if you need any help, we have all sorts of odd-subject enthusiasts, I found the community great to draw on when I was getting GAs and FAs happening. Orderinchaos78 12:30, 25 March 2007 (UTC)
- Hi Orderinchaos78, and thanks for the welcome. So far I've mainly been editing things relating to geology, but hoping to contribute to other subjects relevant to WA. -Zamphuor 13:20, 25 March 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Surat Basin
Funny. Whenever I try to view the diff for your edit to Surat Basin, I get an "out of memory in diff" error. Never seen that before. Did you do something outrageously large? Do you see the same error? [1] Hesperian 11:50, 29 March 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks for the response. There's no suspicion by the way - you've established yourself as a good faith editor, with me at least. I just like to track the improvement to articles on my watchlist, is all. I'm still getting the error, and I've tried bypassing my cache. Oh well. Hesperian 12:01, 29 March 2007 (UTC)
I've had the happen to me on a talk page a week or so ago. Most likely you will find that your "systematic edit" is a revert to an old version of the article. Hesperian 23:48, 29 March 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Keeping arts in a project
Have just been trawling the old goldfishbowl (wikipedia) and there are no apparent willing victims (as yet) to start a wp geology project - so it is an orphan subject with no project (!) as found here - Category:Science WikiProjects - which means there is no easy tag to throw on the back like we can for australian topics say - but the mountain and volcano projects dont seem to be tied into the category... - maybe if at the rate you are going - you could start a crater task force... The issue is when there is a collection of articles it is good to keep them under the umbrella of a project or task force... There is no urgency with any of this - just a bit of a thinking aloud on your talk page - hope you dont mind! SatuSuro 03:49, 7 April 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Perth Meetup 2
Due to a foul-up, my WP email page was not activated which has now been fixed. As noted on the Meetup talk page, could you please email me with the details you'd like to have placed on your nametag. Firstnames and Usernames as a minimum, Surnames accommodated on request. Cheers, Thewinchester (talk) 14:44, 12 April 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Silverpit Referencing
Hi, I've added a couple of new references to the Silverpit Crater article they look fine in the text but there seems to be a problem in the refence list. Would you mind taking a look for me? Cheers ClimberDave 12:00, 22 April 2007 (UTC)
- Did a quick fix. There was an extra "ref" tag in front of the "ref name" tag at the start of a couple of them. Cheers --Zamphuor 12:38, 22 April 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Snowball Earth - Potential Good Article?
Hi,
I'm currently working, with others, on the article Snowball Earth, with the aim of restoring it to Good Article status.
I noticed that you made a few contributions to the article, and there's quite a bit that could be done to make a large improvement, so I was wondering whether you might be interested in helping out? I've knocked together a 'wish-list' of what the article could to with which you can view on the article talk page; if you're keen to address any of those points, or make any other improvements, it would be much appreciated! I'll be working through them myself as much as my busy schedule allows. Hope to see you there!
Thanks,

[edit] Welcome
To the floating potential (bit like a well stocked liferaft with no sign of life) Australian Maritime History project - bit quiet at the moment - but back to life soon - cheers SatuSuro 14:30, 29 April 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Craters
Our paths do cross in strange ways - what with having our own samples of darwin glass and just saw you tagging dalgaranga - I used to stay on melangata - the station to the west. Trust you have a handle on everything - looking at your contribs - you clearly have no probs by the look of it. Hoping to do a gmail in the next week about a possible meetup late may early june up here on the plateau (sic) cheers SatuSuro 03:30, 13 May 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Butane - Vandalism
Hey... The recent vandalism on the Butane article which you reverted did not revert completely to the original - the vandal had done his blanking in two consecutive edits. I've reverted to the complete version which you had previously restored. Just wanted to let you know. :) Ajcfreak 14:28, 15 May 2007 (UTC)
- No probs. Great work... Keep at it! Ajcfreak 14:36, 15 May 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Earthquake vandalism
Thank you for reverting vandalism. If you notice IP vandalism on pages you watch, you may request protection here Wikipedia:Requests for page protection. I think, this is more efficient than trying to revert vandalism on the same page several times a day. Solarapex 16:11, 22 May 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Wont give up
Sigh, another persistent one - there is a rumour that some warnings dont get to some IP's - not sure about it though SatuSuro 10:54, 26 May 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Oil shale
Hi Zamphuor. You are listed as a participant in WikiProject Geology. Maybe you to please consider helping to improve the oil shale article. This article has developed quite well, but some more expert assistance is needed. Thank you in advance. Beagel 17:16, 31 May 2007 (UTC)

Hey! I'm contacting all the members of wikiproject Perth because, I have put in an incomplete bid for Perth to hold Wikimania 2008. Please show your support by adding your name to the list and help contribute by improving our bid which is incomplete and located here - thanks Talk to symode09's or How's my driving? 18:16, 10 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] The Good Guys!
I was removing the Australian SPAM information at the same time you were prodding it for much the same reason. Take a look. Also, I have some concerns about a choice of Username policy violation on the part of Username:KevinGoodGuy, as he has used his account exclusively to input commercial information on the Australian store. See what you think about that. Thanks. OfficeGirl 15:06, 12 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Over there
Wow can you hear the dripping water from the empty vaults ceiling? (huh? you might ask correctly) the hobart/ tasmania projects needs a boot up the proverbial - myers burns down and not one local puts anything in! cheers SatuSuro 11:57, 27 September 2007 (UTC) when i was running the thingo on the west coast - i used to have one week there and a week in a friends room about 20 minutes walk out - but the memory is getting v v rusty :( SatuSuro 12:10, 27 September 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Panther Mountain copyedit
Thanks a lot for doing that! Geology isn't my specialty, so having someone who can better interpret the source info than I go through it only improves the article. Daniel Case 14:10, 1 October 2007 (UTC)
[edit] French refs
I have been discarding french refs (it is en wikipedia) at d'entrecasteaux - and noticed one of the baudin arts had the same - what do you think?- like i have my own copy of encountering terra australis - it seems not that hard to find nla or state ref with reasonable sources/further reading SatuSuro 07:54, 13 October 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Swan
I was thinking how to describe the edit I was about to undo, but you were too fast for me - thanks for the revert. Cygnis insignis 09:25, 6 November 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Ediacaran
You are correct; there was no reason to revert. I misread the edit. Regards, Ardric47 01:26, 13 November 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Nice work on editing some scientists
Just wanted to say thanks for the work you did on Ralph Tate and Walter Howchin. – Diverman (talk) 10:50, 22 November 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Mt Maria and Bishop & Clerk - Maria Island
Hi Zamphuor,
Just letting you know that I think the heights on the Mt Maria page need changing, from 709 & 630, to 711 & 620 metres, on the Maria Island page. I see you have got a reference for Mt Maria - this reference is actually in error, as it cites a 709-metre spot height 340 metres ENE of the Mt Maria summit trig. The trig's official surveyed height is 711 metres above sea level using the Australian Height Datum, as shown on the 1:25,000 and 1:50,000 mapsheets. The Mt Maria track ends at the summit trig station (confirmed on-site).
I have also confirmed on-site the exact location of the summit of Bishop & Clerk (and track terminus). At this point on the "Darlington" 1:25,000 mapsheet there is a spot height of 620 metres, confirmed using GPS and altimeter on-site. Previous, older mapsheets showed a 630-metre spot hight in this general area, and the current map shows a 629-metre spot height 470 metres south of the B&C summit, near Mt Pedder.
The source of the Geoscience Aust/gazetteer data is ultimately the surveying done by the Tasmanian State Department of Primary Industries and Water, who also publish the 1:25,000 and 1:50,000 maps of Maria Island. The Federal dept does not do its own surveying in the state.
My intention would be to alter the heights and provide the appropriate survey data or mapsheets as references. The Geoscience Aust error should be reported to them.

[edit] Natural gas
Just so you know, somehow this revert of yours ended up cutting off the end of the article. Perhaps you can look into what went wrong. Thanks. -- Ed (Edgar181) 14:35, 16 January 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Vascular plant
You changed the earilest date to Ordivician based on [2] this article, but I don't see why. That article is about land plants, not vascular plants. The spores found have been considered as possibly belonging to liverworts, which are not vascular plants. --EncycloPetey (talk) 04:33, 27 January 2008 (UTC)
- Yes, you're right. I mistakenly thought bryophytes were vascular. Thanks for quickly reverting it. I presume you'll have no objection if I try to work the reference into the bryophyte and liverwort pages. Zamphuor (talk) 11:23, 27 January 2008 (UTC)
-
- That would be great. Note however that the Marchantiophyta page has the earliest occurrence info in the "fossil range" line of the taxobox. So, you would need to make the change there. But in yor edit, please preserve the mid-Devonian reference in the article text, since that is the date for the oldest liverwort macrofossil. --EncycloPetey (talk) 17:19, 27 January 2008 (UTC)
[edit] GOOD
To see you are still around - trust the new year is treatng you well - cheers SatuSuro 13:20, 16 February 2008 (UTC) Yeah well, it is an acquired taste - and it dosnt take much to get diverted by real life :) btw - i need to ask a favour on the geology of the nullabor sometim - any idea where id get a good ref re the 'largest blob of karts/limestone in the world thingo?'
