[edit] Attack?
- The fansub of Tokyo Mew Mew lists Zakuro's attack as "Ribbon Zakuro Spear" while the English version by Tokyopop lists her attack as "Ribbon Zakuro('s) Pure". I also heard from another source that the attack is most likely "Ribbon Zakuross Pure", after her weapon. The original Japanese has it as Ribon ZakurossuPiya. Which should we use on the page?
I think it would be best if we just explain the different way it can be translated. -Denryuu

does anyone know which episode this is from? I was thinkin of adding an image of her for that trivia that says she went changes is the later episodes. [edit] Zakuro's weapons and attack
Me and some other person who IP starts with 69. kinda decided that the word "cross" isn't evident in her attack name. Pudding is the only Mew whose weapon is included in her attack, but not other mews, so we ommited "cross", her weapon in her attack. As she and Ichigo and the only mews whose name is of Japanese origin, it would make sence to remove "cross" from her attck, as Ichigo doesnt say her weapon in her attack.
since Ichigo says "strawberry" in her attack, Zakuro would have to say her name was well. So, there attack includes the friut they were named after. As for "spear", I wasn't entirly sure, but the other mews kinda say something unrelating to their weapon (check, echo, inferno, rush), so "spear" would make sence oddly. Angelofdeath, I understand what you mean, but this is NOT "spear". Try type "spear" in some online dictionary, it is スピア, not スピュア. Well... come to think of it, I do have some explanation for this. Notice that you've said that Mew Pudding has her weapon included in her attack, so the same thing MAY be with Zakuro, too. I think the word "pure" DOES make sense, when combined with the word "cross". See what I mean?

- If no... There is one thing that is related to the "cross" part. Zakuro is a religious person. She goes to church. I kinda CAN explain what the connection between "cross" and "pure" is, but I'm pretty sure that you can understand it yourself. I will not change it back to "ZaCross Pure" simply because I'm too tired from writing stuff about Ichigo's age on the Talk page for Tokyo Mew Mew. ^_^;
I still can see what you mean, but look at this:
1) Both "cross" and "pure" words are somewhat religion-related. Since it IS shown in the anime, that Zakuro goes to church, the origin of the word "cross" in her weapon/attack name IS obvious, so I don't think it should be simply omitted.
2) You mentioned Pudding's attack here, which DOES contain a pun on her name AND weapon. Then, notice that Zakuro appeared AFTER Pudding. My idea is that the author liked this kind of pun, when she came up with it in Pudding's weapon/attack names, so she decided to do this with Zakuro's, too. If Pudding can use this "punny" type of magic incantations, what's wrong with Zakuro using it?
Even if you still think that the "su" syllable should be connected to the first two syllables to form the word "spear" (which isn't technically "spear") or even omitted, the pun on the word "cross" should still be mentioned somewhere (like how you mentioned "anima" in Chimera Anima(l)s explanation).
By the way. I tried to type スピュア in some online dictionary, and it couldn't translate it. I typed "spear" in Roman letters, and it translated it to スピア, as I said before. Then, just for fun, I typed アニマ, and the result was "anima". The dictionary recognized it as a normal word. I typed アニマル, and THAT was "animal". Funny...
That gave me one more idea: maybe スピュア can be thought of as an alteration of スピア, so that it makes the attack incantation refer to both "spear" and "pure"? This'll probably work for you, if you still insist that it's "spear". But this version is obviously can't be proved at all. So I still think that it's "Reborn ZaCross Pure", as it seems to be made the same way as "Reborn PuddRing Ring Inferno". Anyway, this is a bad idea to remove the "cross" reference, since it IS obvious.
And the fact that her name is of Japanese origin doesn't really mean anything. All the Mew names are written in katakana, which kinda make them look like they are not Japanese words, since the Japanese use katakana mostly for foreign words.
This becomes confusing because we use the same letters when romanizing the names. OK, I'll try to explain. Suppose we're translating "Tokyo Mew Mew" into some language that doesn't use Roman alphabet. Of course, the "normal" names would be written using this language's alphabet, because they aren't technically English words, even if they do resemble one's. Then, since their Mew names are written in katakana, which makes them look like they're foreighn words even if they aren't technically foreighn words, it would make sense to write them using Roman alphabet. If you do this with Mint, Lettuce and Pudding, you'll get normal English word's. Ichigo's and Zakuro's names, which aren't English words, also would be written in Roman letters, just to match the pattern. So, with those words written in Roman letters instead of the language's alphabet, they'll look like they're English words even if they aren't, like Ichigo and Zakuro. This'll make it possible to combine the names with English words (since they're written in Roman letters), just like it was supposed to be.
I know that this explanation is kinda complicated, but this is how it works in Japanese version due to the using of different characters (hiragana/kanji, as opposed to katakana). Since we use the same Roman letters, when writing their names in the English text, it becomes confusing, because the difference gets removed.
This is why I actually support writing their normal names according to the pronuciation, like "Minto/Mew Mint", "Retasu/Mew Lettuce", "Bu-Ling (or Purin)/Mew Pudding", because it shows this difference. But due to Ichigo's and Zakuro's names being made from Japanese words instead of English, we can't show this difference in their names, and this is what leads to confuse.

At the very least, we should mention both translations without biasing the article towards one or the other. I personally think it could go either way (even though "supyua" would be hard to translate to "spear".... Why would there be a "yu"?), so to me, this is the best option.
Now I know スピア is spear because the goolgle translator. And know that I think about it, since Zakuro is the last Mew to be found, she would kinda get the complicated puns maybe because the people got creative when making her puns, which where スピュア came possibly about: a combo of spear and pure probaly.
I have an idea. For now, I'll keep the current of her transalation and explnation, and the one you wrote up, just to keep both ideas (to edit, add more etc.). Then from there I'll add little by little from this discussion.

[edit] Hair and Eye Color Folly
I couldn't help but notice a rather big issue on the page. It lists Zakuro to have grey eyes and purple hair, when indeed that is not the case, at least not both in the manga and anime.
If you'll recall, in volume two of the Tokyo Mew Mew manga, Minto refers to Zakuro as both "raven-haired" and as having brilliant blue eyes. Minto, being a fangirl or Zakuro, may be assumed to be exaggerating, but that is doubtful as "raven-haired" means she has a dark black color of hair in normal form, a color quick diffrent than that shown in the anime.
I think it should be noted in the article that her hair and eye color from anime to manga is diffrent, as well as list what her eye and hair are in the manga. Also, on the cover of Volume five of Tokyo Mew Mew, she is shown to have purple eyes in her Mew form. I do believe that the hair and eye color section of this article requires revision.
