From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hello, Zahir13, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are a few good links for newcomers:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your name and the date. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or place {{helpme}} on your talk page and someone will show up shortly to answer your questions.

By the way, good points on Talk:Mumia Abu-Jamal. You might want to consider suggesting the chage from category:American murderers to Category:Americans convicted of murder on WP:CFD, or you can discuss it with me on my talk page and I can do it. Thanks for being a voice of reason on that talk page!

Again, welcome!  delldot | talk 16:07, 26 December 2006 (UTC)

No problem, I can look into it. I've actually never nominated anything in CFD either, but I'll give it a go and get back to you. I saw that you must be new since you had no posts on your talk page, but it was deceptive, since you're already so good at WP! I mean, you're discussing stuff on talk pages, you know about categories, you're signing your posts... Man, you're ahead of the curve! Peace, delldot | talk 16:25, 26 December 2006 (UTC)
Ah, I see. Yeah, I dabble in other wikis myself, and they are a little different. There's so much more process here. So your caution is warranted. (I'm still reviewing the CFD related pages myself before posting there). Let me know if you need any help or anything. Peace, delldot | talk 16:51, 26 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Dracula

Cool, it looks good. I made a couple very minor changes: if you want to link to an article you can form it like this: [http://theURL The title] with a space between the URL and the title. Also, for some reason I'm under the impression that you're not supposed to subst stub templates, maybe because it saves space in the edit window (though that does create a potential for vandalism, which is a big problem around here). Anyway, great work, I'm psyched that you joined the project. By the way, are you aware of the WikiProject on Horror? Seems interesting, and I'm sure they could use your vampire expertise!

In other news, you may have seen my note on Talk:Mumia Abu Jamal. I found that someone had already listed the categories for deletion a while back, and it hadn't passed, probably just because it was such a complicated change. There are categories not just for American murderers, but murderers from about 100 countries! So I wasn't sure if I should re list it, maybe I'll do some more poking around to determine whether it should be brought back up or allowed to lie. Peace, delldot | talk 18:25, 27 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] License tagging for Image:Dracula-still-2006.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Dracula-still-2006.jpg. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 19:05, 27 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] BBC Dracula

Yes, looks like a good article, Zahir. I may give some input once I have watched it, tommorow. Fascinating that (bad) blood still retains its metaphorical and literal and political importance in the 21st first century. Dracula is more than a Freudian nightmare but addresses our contempory bio-plague-body-horrors, which, unfortunately are all too real. Colin4C 20:59, 27 December 2006 (UTC)

Re your message, I had another look at the BBC Dracula article, Zahir. Seems fairly sound, though I did make some minor alterations and additions. Colin4C 19:11, 7 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Image tagging for Image:1977 dracula 1.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:1977 dracula 1.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the source and creator of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you don't indicate the source and creator of the image on the image's description page, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided source information for them as well.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

Hi. They're minor in the sense of not having their own article - the links redirected to the main Dracula article. You're welcome to put them back but they didn't seem helpful. —Whouk (talk) 18:55, 30 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Dracula 2006 screenshots

Re your question about screenshot usage policy, there's a brief discussion here, and I think the general consensus seems to be that you can use as few screenshots as possible to illustrate the storyline of the film. 5 seems to me fine, plus the old-new pic.--Codenamecuckoo 08:54, 14 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Disco Vampire Tropes

Hello again Zahir! Just wondering if you know when vampires first started going to discos. Was it in The Hunger? And when did they first get attracted to the Goth scene? And when did they first develop facial distortions a la 'Buffy', when they became vampiric? Was that in From Dusk till Dawn??? Colin4C 20:28, 17 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] National Shakespeare Conservatory

Hi! As a fellow alum, just wanted to say thanks for creating the page for NSC. I don't seem to have much wikitime lately, but I may dive into it at some point in the near future. Just out of curiosity, where did you get that list of alums? I see myself, but nobody else in my class, so I'm assuming it's not by year... Also wondering if we were there at the same time - 94-95? --Brian Olsen 03:49, 18 January 2007 (UTC)

I was there in 94-95 (just one year), right at the end. In fact, the people in my class who stayed were the last graduating class before it was shut down. I think the faculty must have changed quite a bit since you were - Jimmy Tripp is the only person you named who was there when I was, I think. I'm hoping I have a chance to take a better look at the article this weekend - I think I have the logo somewhere, I may scan and add it. --Brian Olsen 03:16, 20 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Orphaned fair use image (Image:Dracula spanish.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:Dracula spanish.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. [edit] Crash

I didn't delete the actual picture. Just the box that held the image because there was no image there and there hadn't been for quite sometime. You're welcome to revert my edit. It was taking up space in the article, since there was no actual image there.

[edit] Category:Murderers

Hey again, remember me? I thought you might be interested to know that Category:Murderers is up for discussion, since we discussed that a while back. Peace, delldot | talk 03:51, 11 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] AfD nomination of Tragic villain

An editor has nominated Tragic villain, an article on which you have worked or that you created, for deletion. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also "What Wikipedia is not"). Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Tragic villain and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~). You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate. Thank you. Please note: This is an automatic notification by a bot. I have nothing to do with this article or the deletion nomination, and can't do anything about it. [edit] Vampire News Update

Hi Zahir! Just read in the Sunday Times today that a hitherto lost screenplay by lit giant (and screenwriter) William Faulkner is to be made into a multi-million dollar Hollywood vampire film! It's called 'Dreadful Hollow' and is based on a little known vampire novel of the same name published in 1941 by one Irina Karlova, whom I've never heard of before...Apparantly the novel is about a mysterious countess who invites young girls to her London mansion in order to...well...you know...Sounds just like our sort of thing...Colin4C 17:27, 18 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:Circus-der-vampire.jpg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Circus-der-vampire.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 19:36, 2 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Image:Vultures_eye.jpg

I have tagged Image:Vultures_eye.jpg as {{no rationale}}, because it does not provide a fair use rationale. If you believe the image to be acceptable for fair use according to Wikipedia policy, please provide a rationale explaining as much, in accordance with the fair use rationale guideline, on the image description page. Please also consider using {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. Thank you. ShakespeareFan00 18:52, 22 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] AfD nomination of Lust at First Bite

I have nominated Lust at First Bite, an article you created, for deletion. I do not feel that this article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and have explained why at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Lust at First Bite. Your opinions on the matter are welcome at that same discussion page; also, you are welcome to edit the article to address these concerns. Thank you for your time. Thanks for uploading Image:Lust at first bite posters.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 21:18, 13 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Image copyright problem with Image:D11.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:D11.jpg. You've indicated that the image is being used under a claim of fair use, but you have not provided an adequate explanation for why it meets Wikipedia's requirements for such images. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for each article the image is used in.
  • That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.

This is an automated notice by FairuseBot. For assistance on the image use policy, see Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. --07:55, 20 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Orphaned non-free media (Image:DraculaHasRisen.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:DraculaHasRisen.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 07:57, 2 June 2008 (UTC)
