[edit] Start

A couple of the links need to be cleaned up. Also there's a painting of this fellow, according to the .gov link. It's interesting to think that if he had been just a little quicker with his promotion, he might have headed the Vancouver expedition & the cities of Vancouver might be named "Mudge" rewinn 06:31, 9 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Mudge Island

According to the Mudge Island Wikipedia article, and webpage, it was named for another Mudge, William Fitzwilliam Mudge. Perhaps a relative? Pustelnik (talk) 01:54, 18 December 2007 (UTC)

Great question. Zachary had an older brother William...maybe it was he? I'll have to research further~! rewinn (talk) 22:43, 7 February 2008 (UTC)
Just stumbled across this page, wandering links related to George Vancouver etc -- checked Mudge Island in the BC Geographical Names Information System and found it says: "William T.F. Mudge was a great-nephew of Lieutenant Zachary Mudge, with Vancouver's expedition". Added ref to Mudge Island page. Btw, was Puget Sound really almost named for Mudge? How much is "almost"? I'm curious now -- and thankful it's Puget and not Mudge Sound, whew! Pfly (talk) 00:09, 1 June 2008 (UTC)
