[edit] Ability
Gorres is notable for his ability to withstand strong impact. Thus, this makes it difficult for an adversary to hurt or send him to the canvas. His only drawback is he lacks punching power which inflict little damage on opponents. He showed great stamina and good footwork as well.
[edit] Career
On a day of March in 2007, Gorres was given the opportunity to challenge Fernando Montiel for the WBO super flyweight title. The event was a series of bouts held in Cebu and hailed as "The Moment of Truth." In the fight, both boxers showed great potential thus making it difficult to determine the winner. Gorres was deducted two points (one in the 10th and another in the 12th round) for holding. In the end the Mexican won by split decision.
After failing to win the world title from Montiel, Gorres was scheduled to face Gerson Guerrero in an exhibition bout on August 11, 2007 held in Sacramento, California. But just a few days before the fight, he was nearly excluded due to an eye problem which doctors found on him and that they had to replaced him with Diosdado Gabi, another Philippine boxer. After successful operation, Gorres secured his place in his upcoming fight. His opponent however had a similar medical problem and was replaced by Eric Ortiz. At the bout, Gorres bested Ortiz by TKO in the 8th round.
He fought Vic Darchinyan on February 2, 2008 in an eliminator where the winner will face Dimitri Kirilov for the IBF super flyweight title. However, the fight ended in a split draw.
[edit] Personal
