[edit] Essjay's talk

I reverted your revert, because Essjay's user talk page clearly states:

"Do not, under any circumstances, remove posts from this page without my permission. Non-vandalism posts, regardless of merit, should not be removed or reverted; anyone observing the removal of information from this page by anyone other than myself should blanket revert on sight"

Please respect his wishes on this matter. Cheers, Daniel Bryant 01:10, 2 March 2007 (UTC)

As an addendum to this, applying generic warnings to the talk pages of well-established users, as you did here, is very likely to be interpreted as condescending, because these templates are designed for new and uninformed users (e.g., "welcome to wikipedia"). Because of this it is usually unproductive to add generic warnings; if you feel a message is in order, a personal note tends to be more effective. Christopher Parham (talk) 01:17, 2 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] My Signature

You are among many who have complained of my signature. I have finally decided to change it. However, I'm not sure what I should change it to, as my last design (my current one) seems to be very.... unpopular. If you wish to submit a design, I would be more than glad to use it. Thanks! -- S h a r k f a c e 2 1 7 04:50, 2 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Misuse of vandalism warning

From Wikipedia:Vandalism

Any good-faith effort to improve the encyclopedia, even if misguided or ill-considered, is not vandalism

This is unacceptable use of a vandalism warning. Graft's edit to the article removed a garbled section (most of which was unrelated to "Conservation status"). He did not, however, remove any information from the article. Graft's edits clearly improved the article. Calling something vandalism that was not only a good faith edit, but also an 'improvement to the article, is ridiculous. Don't do that in the future. Guettarda 12:53, 2 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Please cut the length of your sig in code

As the header says. – Chacor 17:07, 3 March 2007 (UTC)

The current length of your sig in code is far too long - it takes up four to five lines of the editing box. Again, please reduce the size. – Chacor 04:57, 4 March 2007 (UTC)
Since you have criticized about my current signature, this sig from now on will look like this: Meteoroid »
—Meteoroid » 05:08, 4 March 2007 (UTC)
That's better, and looks cleaner. Thanks. (P.S., see WP:SIG#Length for why I asked you to shorten it.) – Chacor 05:34, 4 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Re: Advertisement

Hi Qxz, you made this ad?Meteoroid » 03:25, 5 March 2007 (UTC)

You mean the one at the top of my talk page? Yes, I made it (or rather them – there's six; click the "show another" button to randomize it). Any suggestions for additional ones are welcome – Qxz 03:27, 5 March 2007 (UTC)
Thanx, now i have my version of ur ad. u will see it on both my userpage and my talkpage. Meteoroid » 03:29, 5 March 2007 (UTC)
Oh, one other thing – I see you've copied the code into your userspace. Could you possibly transclude {{User:Qxz/ad.css}} directly? That way changes will be reflected in your version too; since it's a CSS page your talk page is safe from vandalism :) – Qxz 03:30, 5 March 2007 (UTC)
Transclusion done. Meteoroid » 03:33, 5 March 2007 (UTC)
P.S.: I am using {{User:Meteoroid/ad.css}} because the link in "feedback" adds comments to ur talkpage instead of my talkpage. Meteoroid » 03:36, 5 March 2007 (UTC)
Hmmm... so it does. Well, I *did* make the ads, so I figured comments should come to me. But if you're happy to have them, I'll make it use the talk page of the user whose page it's on. Also, the "show another" link wasn't working properly with subpages, and you have it in a subpage on your userpage, so I've fixed that too. Thanks – Qxz 03:39, 5 March 2007 (UTC)
Anyway, when you've done that, which is your favourite? :) And is there anything else you can think of that would benefit from an ad? – Qxz 03:41, 5 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Header

Ah, I see you found my talk archive header, too. I was considering making it into a template – and perhaps now is a good time to do so, as you'll notice the "current talk page" link on your archive pages now points to my talk page :) Any suggestions as to what I should call it? – Qxz 03:52, 5 March 2007 (UTC)

I went ahead and created it, at {{talkarchive-atn}}. I've therefore updated your /Archive 1 accordingly – and it now links to your talk page rather than mine. Now it's a proper template, feel free to use it anywhere you wish. I've also switched your talk page back to using {{User:Qxz/ad.css}} – two reasons: First, if I update it with new ads, this means it will update on your talk page too. Otherwise, your talk page wouldn't reflect the changes and since you had it in a CSS page, I wouldn't be able to edit it to update it manually either. It's not too much of a problem when there's only you using it, but if you imagine lots of people start using it, and they all end up with out-of-date versions, it would be annoying for me :) Secondly, it's now possible to customize the border and background to fit the page it's applied to – it can be displayed in different styles without having to use a different template. You'll see I've changed it on this page to better fit your blue, rounded-edges colour scheme – like it? – Qxz 04:22, 5 March 2007 (UTC)
thanx, 'm now tagging {{User:Meteoroid/ad.css}} for speedy deletion. —Meteoroid » 13:57, 5 March 2007 (UTC)

Since you have recieved over 25,000 edits in only 2 months, it is possible that i will nominate you for RfA in the next few months (sometimes, I will nominate users simutaniously). —Meteoroid » 03:41, 6 March 2007 (UTC)

Yes, you and half the rest of the wiki, judging by similar comments I've recieved. I'm still not entirely sure I want to be an administrator. Anyway, about that image, someone insisted I replaced all the non-animated GIFs with PNGs, so I did. Hence GIFs 4 and 5 have been deleted, so the template may have been broken temporarily. Should be OK now though – Qxz 06:47, 6 March 2007 (UTC)

oh and one other thing, is the software cross-platform compatible? (i.e. Windows, Linux, Mac, etc.) —Meteoroid » 03:48, 8 March 2007 (UTC)

No, it's written in Visual Basic.NET, so it only works on Windows. (It's the only programming language I'm any good with, unfortunately, and it was only intended to be for personal use) – Qxz 10:15, 8 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] User:Weixiang7326

I have agreement that the user, Weixiang7326 has been vandalized for misinformation in the article, Windows Vista, and also it replaces their Windows screenshots with copyright material images of the TV Animé show, "Doraemon" and it uses the Royale theme in Windows XP. Have a look at his contributions, for example, Meteoroid -- I notice when I'm not created an account to Wikipedia last year, I see that mistyped the information to the Windows Vista article (as well to the minimum requirements), and replacing the Windows fair-use images, such as Windows XP and Windows Media Player, I found that maybe an adult content. I left a final warning at the Weixiang7326's talk page -- and if he continue to replace the inappropriate screenshots to the article, report Weixiang7326 to the administrator and will be blocked permanently from editing Wikipedia. Thanks! Jigs41793 Talk/contribs 01:30, 10 March 2007 (UTC)

Oh, thanks for commenting me! But no thanks to revert the older image version by you on Image:Windows Media Player 11 XP.png, because I demonstrating the Windows Vista theme for Windows XP, and the desktop background -- is part of the Microsoft Windows itself. It maybe that my latest version of the image is appropriate screenshot, either. Jigs41793 Talk/contribs 02:52, 10 March 2007 (UTC)
i really do not know if that image IS appropriate to use and like i have said before, please archive your talk page, it's becoming too long. —Meteoroid » 02:55, 10 March 2007 (UTC)
I'm done to archive my talk page! Oh, and also I'm redesigned by talk page! Have a look, Meteoroid! I'm using a color scheme of the Codename: Kids Next Door cartoon which is credited for the KND logo. What do you think? Jigs41793 Talk/contribs 05:05, 10 March 2007 (UTC)

You recently asked me shouldn't you be nominated as administrator at this point? Is this a nomination - if so, I think I would accept!

[edit] Messages left on RfA nominees' talk pages

Hi Meteoroid! I don't want to sound like I'm censoring you or telling you off, but I don't know if this sort of message is very nice - I noticed you left one on Chacor's page too. Trust me, when someone is on RfA, they're checking it every so often, so they know if thye're passing or failing - and the way you phrase it sounds, well, kinda mean. Maybe a recommendation to withdraw, politely, something along the lines of "It looks like your request is unlikely to reach consensus. Have you considered withdrawing?" would probably be a bit nicer. Thanks, and I hope you don't take offense. Cheers, – riana_dzasta 09:22, 11 March 2007 (UTC)

Hi, thank you for your suggestions; I'll see what I can do. I'll do one for talk page signing, however I'm not sure about this "counter vandalism unit" because I haven't quite figured out what it is. It just seems to be a page telling you how to revert vandalism (which is redundant to the information on the official policy page and the Wikipedia:Cleaning up vandalism help page), and giving you a userbox with a nice logo to put on your page; I've dealt with a lot of vandalism without even having heard of this page before, so I'm curious as to what there is to advertise. I guess so... it's just I still don't really understand what the 'counter-vandalism unit' is. Is it just a group of people who do RC Patrol a lot? Is there a separate WikiProject page somewhere that lists members or something? The page you link just seems to be an information page, and I wouldn't do an ad just for an information page, though I'll happily do an ad for the concept of RC Patrol in general – Qxz 00:18, 15 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] reverting vandalism

Whether I warn vandals often depends on the exact kind of vandalism. The more childish the edit (writing a fun paragraph -> blanking -> poop), the more likely I decide that it's probably not worth the while to warn them, as it seems to me like a form of feeding the trolls. But I admit that sometimes I'm just too lazy to do it. I'll keep your suggestion in mind. —KNcyu38 (talkcontribs) 02:14, 22 March 2007 (UTC)

Just wanted to add that now that I have finally discovered WP:TW, my warning percentage may increase significantly. I basically never left warnings from VP, instead changed to firefox for that. Tedious, but no more. Regards, —KNcyu38 (talkcontribs) 01:53, 23 March 2007 (UTC)

Each one of them is going to get the same answer: No, I do not want to be an administrator. [edit] Warning?!

[edit] March 2007

Hello, {{BASEPAGENAME}}! Thank you for reverting vandalism to Wikipedia. After you revert, I would recommend also warning the users whose edits you revert on their talk pages with an appropriate template or custom message. This will serve to direct new users towards the sandbox, educate them about Wikipedia, and a stern warning to a vandal may prevent him or her from vandalizing again. Thanks! zero » 03:30, 22 March 2007 (UTC)

I know :) - as you may be aware, one somtimes doesn't have the time to apply the appropriate warning, especially when (as is often the case for me) you spot a bit of vandlaism on your watchlist just before you go out! Can I ask exactly which edit you were referring to? I have, as you may know, knowlegde of the appropriate warning guidelines, but sometimes it can be impractical to follow them, though I do try to adhere. The thing is - the only vandalism I have recently reverted is to MartinBot's user page, and I tend to block when that occurs (personal attacks). When I'm actively on RCPatrol, I always warn religiously, however if I'm making a casual revert, it's often difficult (in any case, admins should look through the user's contribs before blocking - not just the vandalism warnings (from experience)). I really don't want to be one of those who comlains about this sort of thing, but I admit to having felt slightly affronted by a message given to new users appearing on my talk page, while a short, personal notice would have sufficed. I have demonstrated in the past that I know the policy! Martinp23 22:12, 22 March 2007 (UTC)
Anyway, if I started rambling, the moral is - "avoid slapping templates on the talk pages of established users/admins" :) Martinp23 22:13, 22 March 2007 (UTC)

No, it's not me. And since it was created over a year ago and has fewer than 50 edits, I also fail to see how it is "similar" in anything but name. You reverted a good faith edit, which I have reverted back. Please review your edits more carefully in the future. Thank you. --Edokter (Talk) 11:22, 29 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] User:Qxz

I reverted your changes to Qxz's user page. While I'm sure that it was meant to be taken as a helpful gesture, the addition of a large, dramatic "RETIRED" slogan should be left to the user page owner's discretion. ˉˉanetode╦╩ 00:01, 30 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/Tails0600

This RfA was withdrawn two days ago. I've removed your oppose opinion since once an RfA has been withdrawn it should not be added to. Thanks, Gwernol 01:44, 30 March 2007 (UTC)

Not necessarily. As long as a withdrawn RfA is no longer transcluded on WP:RFA it is not active. A formal close does not have to occur. Generally people only add their opinions to RfAs that they find by looking at the RFA page, so this isn't a problem. Gwernol 01:50, 30 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Hidden Text

Did you get that idea of hidden text at the top of your talk page from my userpage?  ~Steptrip 02:22, 31 March 2007 (UTC)

The first text that you can see between <!----> if you click on the "edit this page" button.  ~Steptrip 02:37, 31 March 2007 (UTC)
Yes, that page, and this one.  ~Steptrip 02:42, 31 March 2007 (UTC)
You just changed the Thanks, Steptrip to Cheers, z.e.r.o., correct? Just so you know, I am not in any way mad at you, just in case you were thinking that.  ~Steptrip 02:54, 31 March 2007 (UTC)
That's how mine is formatted, so they are the same. Aha on my behalf.  ~Steptrip 02:56, 31 March 2007 (UTC)
