Yves Makabu-Makalambay (born January 31, 1986) is a Belgian footballer, currently playing for Hibernian of the Scottish Premier League. He is also a Belgian under-21 international. He possesses a tall physique, standing 2.03 metres tall. His parents are from the Democratic Republic of Congo and he has one brother (b. April 19, 1989) named Jonathan.
In February 2006 he went on loan to Watford to cover for the suspended Ben Foster. He wore the shirt number 50. Watford manager Aidy Boothroyd suggested that he was interested in signing him in some capacity for the 2006-07 season[1], but this did not come to fruition.
Due to injuries to Petr Čech and Carlo Cudicini, he made the bench in Chelsea's win over Barcelona, as a substitute for Henrique Hilário in the Champions League making his first appearance on a senior team sheet for the club.
With the arrival of Magnus Hedman at Chelsea, Yves was relegated to fifth choice goalkeeper at the club. He joined SPL side Hibernian on 27 June 2007.[2]
Makalambay kept a clean sheet on his competitive debut for Hibs in a derby match at Tynecastle against Hearts as Hibs won 1-0. Despite making two errors which led to a 3-3 draw with Aberdeen, Makalambay regained his form with a penalty save in a 1-0 win over Inverness.
In January 2008 he earned his first full call-up for the Belgian national team, and will also compete for Belgium in the Beijing Olympics.
[edit] Trivia
Yves grew up in Brussels in the same neighbourhood as fellow footballers Vincent Kompany, Faris Haroun, Anthony Vanden Borre and Jeanvion Yulu-Matondo
