Yutaka Seto

Yutaka Seto (瀬戸豊 Seto Yutaka?) is a character in the novel Battle Royale, and the film and manga of the same name. In the English edition of the manga, his surname is erroneously romanized as Sato except in Volume 15, Page 143, when it is properly romanized as Seto. In the film Yutaka was played by Yutaka Shimada.

Yutaka Seto is one of the class of third-year students at the fictional Shiroiwa Junior High School. Yutaka is the shortest boy in his class. Yutaka is the best friend of Shinji Mimura. Yutaka is known for being the class clown, and likes the idea of being a comedian when he grew up. In the novel, he has a crush on Izumi Kanai, and in the manga, he has a crush on Fumiyo Fujiyoshi.
In the manga, it shows a flashback when he was defending a small puppy which was being bullied by some men. Shinji shows up and easily beats those thugs up; this marked the start of their friendship.

Yutaka was issued with a fork as his designated weapon, but he knew he was too timid to attack anyone no matter which weapon he received. He was immensely relieved to meet up with his best friend, Shinji. Shinji made a plan for them to blow up the school building, using knowledge gained from his uncle, and Yutaka helped him with this plan. He felt like a burden to Shinji, because he knew he was weaker, and less capable.
In the novel and manga, after Shinji accidentally kills Keita Iijima, he and Yutaka argue briefly. During their reconciliation, Yutaka is shot in the back by Kazuo Kiriyama. The bullets go right through him, killing him, and into Shinji, injuring him.
In the manga, he recalls that at times he would accidentally anger Shinji, but Shinji would eventually calm down and continue to work with him. Yutaka agrees to complete their plan and the two embrace. During this, Kiriyama shoots Yutaka in the side of the face. Ironically, the good-natured Yutaka was still smiling, even after being killed.
In the film, Keita and Yutaka help Shinji.
After Shinji hacks the system, Keita and Yutaka help him move the bomb to blow up the school when the boys notice a figure. Yutaka, believing the figure to be Shuya Nanahara, approaches the figure and tells him to come over, only to be doused with fatal bullets; the figure is, in fact, Kazuo. Kazuo shoots Keita dead after a shootout, and Shinji commits suicide by blowing himself up, blinding Kazuo.
