Experimentation....

I'm going to tag this page as needing clean-up and wikification. It reads to much like a promotional biography and not enough like an encyclopaedic entry. DWaterson 00:28, 12 January 2006 (UTC)

This Stuff article lists her age of immigration as 1. The wikipedia article lists it as 10. Which is correct? --Jimmybee 22:25, 16 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Requested move

The following discussion is an archived discussion of the proposal. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. No further edits should be made to this section.

The result of the proposal was Move.--Húsönd 19:01, 16 March 2007 (UTC)

Kim Yoon-jinYunjin Kim — "Yunjin" is used by nameholder and IMDB, thus following Wikipedia:Naming conventions (Korean). Yunjin Kim used by redirect with two history entries: creation and edit to avoid double redirect, so cannot move directly. Kelvinc 02:41, 10 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Survey - in support of the move

  1. Support per comments below. Yunjin Kim is used by the actress on her official website. PC78 15:36, 11 March 2007 (UTC)
  2. Support as best known in English, as in the credits of Lost, for a American actress acting in English-language works. Gene Nygaard 16:26, 11 March 2007 (UTC)
  3. Support - OK, per the spelling of her name on her official website. DWaterson 18:57, 11 March 2007 (UTC)
  4. Support - Note comments below: "Yunjin" is used by nameholder even for Korean audiences. The request is currently on the backlog.  :-| Kelvinc 01:42, 16 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Discussion

Add any additional comments:
  • Query - I'm happy to support this page move, as long as we're sure the target name is correct. Bear in mind that Korean names place the surname/family name before the forename, which can cause confusion - eg. Kim Jong-il is Mr Kim, not Mr Jong-il. Can anyone confirm whether it is Yoon-jin/Yunjin or Kim which is her family name, and if so what the correct arrangement should be? I'm not sure we can rely on IMDb to be definitive. DWaterson 12:31, 10 March 2007 (UTC)
Further comment: I note that Kim (Korean name) indicates that Kim is the most common family name in Korea, so therefore I assume that it is very likely that Kim is the family name here. Wikipedia:Naming conventions (Korean) states that "Unless the subject is known to prefer otherwise, family name should be written first." Do we know whether she prefers to have Kim written last, or is this just a simplification/"standardisation" of her name by the TV studios etc? Also note the contrast with Daniel Dae Kim. DWaterson 12:38, 10 March 2007 (UTC)
On further inspection, "Yoon-jin" is used when in Korean-speaking roles and "Yunjin" in English-speaking roles (i.e. Lost). I guess this might be under the "no established English spelling" clause so perhaps the request should be withdrawn, but I'm willing to wait a day for further discussion. A quick google search reveals that she has an official website [1]. Since the site uses Yunjin Kim that would seem to make this move uncontroversial under Wikipedia:Naming conventions (Korean), which states "names should generally be romanized according to the nameholder's preference". PC78 15:33, 11 March 2007 (UTC)
Yah I had thought that she switch back and forth for different audiences, since her Korean film credits still use "Kim Yoon-jin" even after Lost (see [2]), in which case there's a good reason to keep. But since her website's Korean version uses "Yunjin" as well, I would assume that is indeed the nameholder's preference (I had previously been only looking at the English version). [edit] Photo For Main Page

I attempted to take the photo that was located on her LOST profile, and was unable to upload it successfully. Perhaps someone could assist with this as the photo should have the correct permissions to be used on her personal profile Kcuello (talk) 20:42, 21 January 2008 (UTC)
