[edit] Conflating Groupe Islamiste Combatant Du Maroc with Jamat Mujahedeen Maroc?
The DoD seems to be conflating Groupe Islamiste Combatant Du Maroc with Jamat Mujahedeen Maroc.
They also state that GICM was founded in Sudan in 1995, while JMM was founded in 1999 in Peshawar, Pakistan. That is inconsistent. Rather than speculate as to what the DoD really meant I think we should just report the competing assertions, without comment.
- It would be a violation of WP:SYNTH to explain to readers that the two groups are distinct, different groups.
- It would be a violation of WP:SYNTH to explain to readers that the two groups are just one group.
On the other hand the analysts frequently tied the initials GICM to the Moroccan Islamic Fighting Group, so I think it is OK to assume these refer to the same group.
