Yue He

Yue He (乐和) is a character in the Water Margin.
Yue He was from Maozhou. He was born handsome and had a gentlemanly appearance. He was gifted and could play all kinds of musical instruments and sing very well. Thus, he was nicknamed 'Iron whistle.' (铁叫子) He was clever and able to predict the ending accurately after seeing the beginning of things. He loved martial arts and learnt from Sun Li before.
Yue He served as a jailer in Dengzhou. Once, the Xie brothers (Xie Zhen and Xie Bao) were framed and thrown into prison to await death. Yue He was a distant relation of their cousin Sun Li, so he went to inform Sun Li's younger brother Sun Xin and Sun Xin's wife Gu Dasao. With the combined efforts of Sun Li, Sun Xin, Gu Dasao, Yue He, Zou Run and Zou Yuan, the Xie brothers were rescued from prison and all of them went to Liangshan together after that. Shortly after that, Yue He made a great contribution in helping the Liangshan heroes conquer the Zhu Family Village.
Yue He became one of the leaders of the Liangshan infantry and 72 Earthly Fiends. After the [iangshan heroes defeated the imperial forces led by Gao Qiu, Yue He, along with Xiao Rang followed Gao back to the capital city to meet the emperor and discuss after the granting amnesty to the heroes. Unfortunately Gao Qiu went back on his word and had Yue and Xiao locked up in his residence. In the end, Yan Qing and Dai Zong rescued them.
Yue He followed the heroes on their campaigns against the Liao Tartars and southern rebels after the heroes had been granted amnesty. On the eve of the Fang La campaign, the emperor's son-in-law heard about Yue He's singing talent and let Yue stay in his residence, so Yue did not participate in the campaign. Yue He led a happy life till the end of his days.
