[edit] Image on the article

Images regarding professor Yuan's research in 1986 gives an important visual concept to the readers, and also describes an historical even which led a major breakthrough in chemistry specialy on chemical kinetics, i have restored images which have been took out from the article because they are very relevant. --HappyApple 02:54, 30 March 2006 (UTC)

Please do not mass revert my edits. I made numerous formatting changes that should not have been reverted without reason.
I am unable to view the image of Lee receiving the Nobel prize. The image appears in neither the article nor on the image description page, where the date of upload and link to upload is nonexistent (replaced with "..."). The image will have to be re-uploaded for it to stay, but if this image stays, then some others need to go because thin columns of text created by having images horizontal to each other is unappealling, especially on narrower screens.--Jiang 04:49, 30 March 2006 (UTC)
while I agree with the fair use rationale for the photo of Lee receiving the Nobel prize, I don't see how Image:Yuan T. Lee.jpg can be claimed as fair use. It does not depict a historical event and is therefore not "historically significant". It clearly exhibits the work of a professional photographer (i.e., the posing, etc.) and is therefore very copyrightable, as opposed to a simple headshot. In short, we already know what Lee looks like from the other photos and this photo presents no new information.--Jiang 04:54, 30 March 2006 (UTC)

Hello and greetings from HappyApple, first of all i want to apologice about the inconvinience i have caused to you by reverting your recent edits on Yuan Tseh Lee article. I am leaving you this message at your discussion page because i wish we can settle an agreement about the images; here my impressions

  1. Image:Yuan T. Lee family.jpg and Image:Yuan T. Lee.jpg have been uploaded by you and i think the responsability whether these images should be keep or taken out from the article belongs to you. However i believe they should be kept because the first one fits perfectly under Personal life and awards subsection on the article and in fact adds information to this section by showing Yuan T. Lee beside his family, the second picture, adds a "visual concept", to the readers about how the molecular beams equipment which was used by Lee in 1980s look like. Most people not familiar with the sophisticated laboratory equipment used in chemical kinetics advanced research, and i think this picture helps to readers to understand this.
  2. About the problem you have reported about Image:Yuan Tseh Lee Nobel Award.jpg i have uploaded the picture again, and i hope this can solve the corrupt image you see in your computer, however i advise you to clean your cache, delete spyware, and delete internet temps and trying again, but if you still is unable to see the picture, and you have done all of this before i hope my upload to wikipedia server to have solve your problem. (The image was restored).
  3. Finally, i have used the expression Professor Yuan referring to Yuan Tseh Lee, however if you feel this is a mistake, please feel free to modify it, however i stated this based on Yuan Tseh lee is a physical chemistry professor at NTU as of 2006.

As i said i do not have any kind of intentions to be unpolite, i would ask you please leave me a message at my discussion page about what do you think about this.Best regards.--HappyApple 02:55, 31 March 2006 (UTC)

  1. In Image:Yuan T. Lee.jpg, the significance of the laboratory equipment will be beyond the reach of most readers. Even if readers would understand the significance of the equipment, the context in which the equipment is present is inappropriate: the picture should depict Yuan T. Lee using the equipment or directing someone else to do so, not posing in front of the equipment, which causes it to lose its significance. I picked Image:Yuan T. Lee family.jpg to be removed because it is of low quality and almost every article on scientists do not also include pictures of their families. The subject here is Yuan T. Lee, not his family, which doesn't deserve an article.
  2. I still can't see it. Maybe I should try uploading it myself.
  3. His surname is Lee. I'm seeing him referred to as "Lee Yuan-tseh" almost exclusively in the media nowadays, since he is posted in Taiwan and not the US. Maybe this article needs to be moved. --Jiang 10:11, 1 April 2006 (UTC)
