[edit] Robert Shakespeare

When you make a redirect you need to check and see where it's going. In this case it went to Robbie Shakespeare which is also a redirect. That makes a double redirect and they don't work. So you need to create the redirect to point to Sly and Robbie. Cheers. CambridgeBayWeather (Talk) 11:07, 8 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Image Tagging for Image:COA Danish Royal Family.png

Thanks for uploading Image:COA Danish Royal Family.png. However, the copyright tag you've used is deprecated or obsolete, and should not be used. This could be because the tag is inaccurate or misleading, or because it does not adequately specify the copyright status of the image. For a list of copyright tags that are in current use, see the "Public domain", "Free license", and "Fair use" sections of Wikipedia:Image copyright tags.

[edit] Birthdate?

I'm assuming you mean my birthdate when you say "birth". I like to keep my user page short and relevant to Wikipedia, it's about my contributions, not me. I'm also a little bit worried about crazy people who like to stalk administrators :) -Obli (Talk)? 22:16, 7 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] birth

why not add your birth date to your userpage? --Ysangkok 08:41, 8 July 2006 (UTC)

I'd rather not, as I do already reveal a large amount of personal information on my userpage, and want to avoid setting myself up for identity theft. -- Zanimum 17:51, 8 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] NowCommons

Just notifying you that the Image:Antonow An-2 COLT.png that you have marked with {{nowcommons}} didn't exist on Wikipedia. In fact, you have created its description page. This is not what the template is for. Also, {{NowCommonsThis}} should be used when the names are the same. Conscious 10:40, 2 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Orbit graph

copy of the same message from commons)

Hi, thank you for redrawing one of my graphs! Could you tell me how you did it? Have you used the original file or have you re-created it from scratch? My orbit svg are (a poor) by-product of my program and I never got around to improve the svg generated. Given the number of existing (and to be) graphs I would like, with your permission, to include this transformation in future graphs if feasible. Eurocommuter 17:40, 21 August 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for your response. Well, it is an excellent hand-work!
If you’re interested, I explained partly the reasons why it is such a bad svg (1 pixel line for orbits) on my page on commons in answer to another puzzled editor. I will try Bezier or direct elliptical best-fit approximation but by writing a transformer. There’s also Batik from (a Java2D->SVG generator) I haven’t tried but I’m afraid the results will also as bad given the complexity of the 3D orbit, the complexity people do not realise immediately (spheres partly hiding or being hidden by the orbits for example).
I believe that resulting SVG should be transformed by collapsing multiple <line> elements into elliptic arcs, programmatically, using approximation. To a large extend it is a wasted effort anyway, as currently wikipedia transforms svg->png (so the user will not see the scaling benefits of svg) not to mention their limited svg implementation: no links, no animation, no colour gradient on arbitrary paths,…).
Thanks and see you around Eurocommuter 22:21, 22 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:Sas flight 751 crash.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Sas flight 751 crash.jpg. The image description page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

[edit] Orphaned fair use image (Image:COA Danish Royal Family.png)

Thanks for uploading Image:COA Danish Royal Family.png. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. [edit] Image:Fvwm_family.png

You tagged this image for deleteion, even though i've labeled it as GFDL. You also added welcome text to my talk page, even though i've been registered over a year longer than you, I assume this is because you are using some sort of bot, so I'm just letting you know that this was a mistake, in case you want to correct your scripts. Thanks! -- taviso 22:27, 24 February 2007 (UTC)

GFDL-Self tag has only existed since 2005, the image you're complaining that I tagged incorrectly was uploaded in 2004, so reading your welcome message wouldnt have helped much. I'm not sure why you're being so rude about it, but whatever, i've changed it. -- taviso 21:50, 25 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Image:Gentoo on ps3.jpg...

I'm not the uploader, but it puzzles me why you added the "no source" tag when there's a license on it ("cc-by"). And while I can't guarantee the fact that Whitesanjuro created it, it looks pretty likely. — CJewell (talk to me) 12:15, 27 February 2007 (UTC)

Hello - I was just browsing my user page and noticed that User:Ysangkok gave me a copypasta welcome and notification of deleting my image. When I uploaded the image, I'm almost certain I freed it into the public domain, as it was a picture that I took and uploaded myself (e.g. I own the copyright). The only difference between the image that was deleted and the source image is that I cropped the version I uploaded. I think it would be nice to have a non-YDL image back in the PS3 Linux article, since that picture is just a splash screen and doesn't even lead one to believe that the display showing it is connected to a PS3. I don't have the authority to un-delete the image, so I am requesting that whoever deleted it restore it if possible or allow me re-upload it. Please advise Whitesanjuro 01:36, 12 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] SmackBot and puctuation

Yes, it moves superscripted refs to after the punctuation. This article used them in a different way, as if they were in line text, which didn't work. Fixed up now I believe. Rich Farmbrough, 23:35 24 March 2007 (GMT).

[edit] Deletion

Hi! I just noticed that you put a deletion tag on Image:Beryl wobbly.png. This is a screenshot I took of Beryl's "Wobbly Windows" and made this content myself. It's currently being used on the Beryl page. I have no idea why you tagged this with a deletion. Could someone please tell me why????

[edit] Re: Shadow

Oh, it was easy. :) I did indeed use The GIMP, and I simply used the drop-shadow effect in the Script-Fu menu. I think that's all you do — although I haven't done it in a while, so there may be one or two minor steps in between. Anyway, it's really easy. You should try it some day. — JeremyTalk 04:50, 25 April 2007 (UTC)

Thank you very much for your response. I'll try :P. --Ysangkok 09:15, 25 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Image:Winvista.svg

Hello, Ysangkok. An automated process has found and removed an image or media file tagged as nonfree media, and thus is being used under fair use that was in your userspace. The image (Image:Winvista.svg) was found at the following location: User:Ysangkok/Sandbox. This image or media was attempted to be removed per criterion number 9 of our non-free content policy. The image or media was replaced with Image:NonFreeImageRemoved.svg , so your formatting of your userpage should be fine. Please find a free image or media to replace it with, and or remove the image from your userspace. User:Gnome (Bot)-talk 10:57, 14 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] C (programming language) source highlighting

Hi, the consensus, as established on the talk page after I made the same change, was to stick to pre tags rather than source highlighting as the source highlighting was felt to be ugly and somewhat hapharzardly thought-out. Just explaining why I reverted you! Angus Lepper(T, C, D) 17:28, 29 June 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for the reponse. The discussion is still on the talk page, but here's a permalink to the discussion. [edit] Replaceable fair use Image:Linksyslogo.svg

Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:Linksyslogo.svg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that fair use images which could be replaced by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted 7 days after this notification, per our Fair Use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Jesse Viviano 00:22, 19 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Jens Axboe

A {{prod}} template has been added to the article Jens Axboe, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice explains why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may contest the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. If you endorse deletion of the article, and you are the only person who has made substantial edits to the page, please tag it with {{db-author}}. mms 16:14, 23 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Wavelength.svg

Can you help me to modify Wavelength.svg to Chinese version and upload it to wiki commons as Wavelength-zh.svg? I tried to do the edit, but the file resulted is not visible. I am not sure about the problem, but this is not the first time for such problem to appear. :-( -- Tomchiukc 04:53, 11 August 2007 (UTC)

Hi Tomchiukc. I have updated the image Image:Wavelength-zh.svg. I don't know if you are technical, but what I did is that I converted the file from the Big5 character set to UTF-8. The image shows now but I do not know if the labels make sense. Maybe I just made it show some random characters :P. I also added the license (GFDL). When I made the original SVG image I copied the main layout from another image. This image was licensed under the GFDL. This forces me to also license my version under it. And it also forces you to use it. Thanks for understanding :D. --Ysangkok 19:16, 12 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Redirect of Mercury (IM client)

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Mercury (IM client), by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Mercury (IM client) is a redirect to a non-existent page (CSD R1).

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Mercury (IM client), please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself.
