Youth Friendship Games

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Youth Friendship Games Holland (YFGH) is an international sports tournament for boys and girls 11-19. This tournament is a mini-Olympics, with gold, silver, and bronze medals awarded to the winners. There are also individual awards (I.E.MVP) and trophies awarded to the top players and the top teams. The following sports are represented and played in various venues around Heemstede (site of the Friendship Village, a meeting place for the event's athletes): baseball, basketball, bowling, tennis, volleyball, wrestling, soccer, and swimming.

[edit] Training Camps and Cultural Tours

Training camp is held prior to the tournament. This is followed by a tour of the Dutch countryside.

[edit] Opening Ceremonies

After the first day of competition, all the countries are brought together for a celebration of world unity. This is reminiscent of the Olympic Games, with both a Parade of Nations and the lighting of the "Friendship" flame.
