Youssef Darbaki, (born February 15, 1964 in Casablanca, Morocco) was a Moroccan soccer midfielder. He was a participant in the 1982 World Cup Qualifiers. He is currently the Head Coach/Manager of the St. Paul Twin Stars.

[edit] Coaching Career

Youssef started off coaching the South High School in Minneapolis, Minnesota from the years of 1992-1994. He has been the associate coach for the University of St. Thomas ever since 1994. He has coached the Minnesota Select State Team from 1996-1999. He coached Cougars FC from 1996-2006, which competed in the Minnesota Men's Premier League. He has also coached the Minnesota All-Star African Team from 1999-2006. He coached the Minnesota Blast, now Minnesota NSC United, from 2002-2004. The Minnesota Blast were the National Champions in 2004. He currently coaches the St. Paul Twin Stars. He began coaching the Twinstars when they were formed in 2005. He also was the Coaching Director of the Wayzata Soccer Club, the Kelix Soccer Club, and the Three Rivers Soccer Club, all from Minnesota.

[edit] Philosophy of The Game

Youssef believes that the education of the Youth Programs and the In-House Programs are very important. The structure of club philosophy is important too. Brazilian and European style of play is important to the kids. Creating a family environment for all of the players and parents is key. Also, working hand to hand with coaching director to create a certain platform for the whole club's style. That means all ages of one football club should play the same style of soccer. The communication with all the coaches and team managers is very important. Creating a curriculum that fits the clubs style of play helps with coaching. Bringing all the ethnic groups to the club so we get a variety of style. It is important to be able to talk to them through communicating to them in their own language. Also, Youssef is fluent in Spanish, French, Arabic, English, Portuguese, and Italian.[citation needed]

Youssef is friends with Mohammed Timoumi, Badou Zaki, Abdelmajid Dolmy, and Aziz Bouderbala, all of which played in the 1986 World Cup. Also, Merry Krimau is his 1st cousin. He currently lives in Minneapolis, MN with his wife and five children. He could have possibly played in the 1986 World Cup, but he was injured, and did not pass the fitness test. He has coached talented players such as Francis Doe, Ansu Toure, and has had Tony Sanneh play for him.
