[edit] Description

Young's Modulus is a game produced by Laminar Research which simulates walking, fighting robots. (Mecha) The player can equip his robots with a variety of weapons, including everything from flame throwers to cruise missiles. There are many futuristic weapons as well, including ion mortars, pulse lasers, and a directed lightning gun.

The player has more than one gameplay chioce, he can either play a simple skirmish-style battle, or embark on a Strategic Game. In the Strategic game, you attempt to take control of planets (by defeating the corresponding Mechs) and eventually control the galaxy.

The free demo version originally had full access to the entire game, although the user could not use any of the larger robots. However, Laminar Research has since then (As of version 6.45) opened the demo that is available for download, and any six-digit code will unlock the whole game[1].

The story line to Young's Modulus is actually not even included in the program itself, but rather in a Simpletext file included in the download, which suggests that it has only been a mere afterthought[citation needed].

Young's Modulus was largely developed using the Apple Macintosh computer with Mac OS X, but is cross-compiled to the Windows operating system as well. It should also run on Mac OS 9, although it is not recommended. The 3D graphics are fully based on the cross-platform OpenGL libraries.
