You The Rock★ was born Yuu Takemae on September 5, 1971 in Nagano City of Nagano Prefecture. Takemae was first introduced to Hip-Hop in his elementary school years. At age 15, he dropped out of Shinonoi High School and went to Tokyo to study the genre under the group Tinnie Punx. In 1992, he met DJ Ben (Ben The Ace) at DJ Bar in Shibuya. As You The Rock & DJ Ben, they released Never Die and Tight But Fat.
In 1995, after meeting with the members of Kaminari Kazoku at Club Zoa in Nishiazabu, he also became a member of the group.
You The Rock★ hosted the first Japanese Hip-Hop radio show, "You The Rock's Hip-Hop Night Flight", on Tokyo FM from 1997 to 2002. He also co-hosted "You The Rock and L2D's The Professional Entertainer" on the same station.
In 1998, he covered Haruo Chikada's "song Hoo! Ei! Hoo" on his "Rock The Point" single and has gone on to collaborate with Chikada.
