You Got That Right

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

"You Got That Right" is a song by the Southern rock band Lynyrd Skynyrd from their final studio album, Street Survivors, and released as a single in 1978 (see 1978 in music). The single peaked at #69 on the Billboard Hot 100. The song is mainly associated by fans to their guitarist, Steve Gaines, even though it was written by Ronnie Van Zant. The song has been sung as a duet between Gaines and Van Zant as they both have complementary voices, Van Zant's being low and sharp, and Gaines' being higher and smoother.

Artimus Pyle, drummer of Lynyrd Skynyrd, once said in an interview that Ronnie was happy to let Steve sing the song with his band whilst Ronnie was busy. In another interview it was said that Ronnie was afraid that he would damage his voice in soundchecks so he let Steve sing for him. This sound check was recorded and later sold.
