"You Don't Know" is the first single off of Sisters of Avalon by Cyndi Lauper.
[edit] Song Information
The song is about the wishy-washiness of American politicians. Lauper refers to the arrogance of the media in this song, as well as in other songs on the Sisters of Avalon album.
This song contains the word "bullshit". Although some other artists had to re-record their songs when they became singles (e.g. Bon Jovi with "Someday I'll Be Saturday Night" and "Hey God"), the word is left in the UK singles. While performing on several UK shows ("Noel's House Party", ...), she skipped the word.
Remixes of the song were made by several producers such as Tony Moran and Junior Vasquez. That led the song to become a big dance hit in the United States and a mainstream hit in the UK.
The video was recorded in Washington Square, New York in the beginning of September 1996. The cute little Japanese boy who closes the video is called Grayson. He was hand picked by Lauper. Grayson is a normal 6 year old and not a professional child actor. Lauper directed the video herself.
The single is considered a comeback by Lauper after the song performed so well on the dance charts and in several countries. It was an improvement from Lauper's singles from her previous studio album, Hat Full of Stars.
