[edit] Song popularity

Released in 1964, the song became his second No. 1 hit on the Billboard magazine Hot Country Singles chart in January 1965. It was James' first chart-topper in eight years (the last being "Young Love" in early 1957).

"You're the Only World I Know" also kicked off James' amazing run of popularity, which spanned from the mid-1960s through the 1970s. From 1965 through 1974, James enjoyed 22 No. 1 songs, including a string of 16 straight singles that began two years later.
