Yoshiharu Habu

Yoshiharu Habu, F.M. (羽生善治 HABU Yoshiharu?, born September 27, 1970) is a professional shogi player. His teacher is FUTAKAMI Tatsuya. He also occasionally competes in chess as a non-professional player.

Habu became a professional in 1985. He was promoted to 9 dan in 1994.

He is widely known as the best shogi player currently and of all time due to his numerous title wins. The number of titles he won is 2nd on the all-time list behind OYAMA Yasuharu).

He has dominated all 7 major titles in 1996 (from Feb 14 to Jul 30). ( The titles are Ryu-oh, Meijin, Kisei, Oi, Oza, Kioh and Osho )

Habu is also one of the best chess players in Japan with ELO rating of 2404 (January 2007).
