Yossi Harel was not the captain of the Exodus. The ship's captain was Yitzhak (Ike) Aronowitz, who I had the pleasure of meeting some years ago. He was described accurately in this article: http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2007/jun/30/israelandthepalestinians.lindagrant. Harel was the Haganah's representative, described as a kind of political commissar. Perhaps he was commander of the operation, as stated in a number of obitiaries, but it's historically inaccurate to call him the ship's captain.
