[edit] Hahahaha
By the time this album was released, the Flaming Lips had been on a major label for 10 years. A decade. WHY ARE THEY STILL CONSIDERED INDIE ROCK? THEY ARE NOT ON AN INDEPENDENT LABEL, THEY HAVE BEEN ON WARNER BROS FOR 10 YEARS AS OF THIS RELEASE, SOMEBODY CHANGE THIS BEFORE I REALLY BLOW ONE
- So, did you blow one?
- The style is indie rock, since if you compare their first album to rock and roll of the era, you would have to consider it "indie" in comparison to mainstream rock.
- No need to write in capslock. The above comment is correct, 'Indie' is not just a status any more, it is commonly used to reffer to a certain type of genre or sound.
---To be fair, their style is pretty lush and involved for "indie".
Why can't they just go back to being called what they are: Post-punk? At least it does more to describe their sound than "indie", the only genre whose descriptive ability is more worthless than "alternative"
[edit] Wtf?
From the article: "Some listeners consider Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots to be a concept album, but the storyline is unclear." This is true only for those who don't "get it" when they listen to the album. Unclear to who? RobertAustin 23:24, 1 April 2007 (UTC)
-If you know exactly what it's about, why don't you explain? I heard these guys on Sound Opinions in September 07, and they said that everyone thinks that Yoshimi kills the robot, but really he kills himself and she can't bring herself to tell anyone because they all think she is such a hero. She knows there is a lot to learn from the robot. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.111.56.152 (talk) 02:45, 24 September 2007 (UTC)
The album is unclear in that it doesn't directly state what happens, I suppose. There are numerous ways to interpret it. Mengsk (talk) 20:01, 15 April 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Reference?
Can anyone provide a source for the Broadway Musical section? Sounds far-fetched to me.
