[edit] Only Japan?

Somebody has just put that Yoshiki is one of the most influential drummers in Japan rock history, eehm, everybody knows that Yoshiki is THE drummer of Japan, and because of that is one of the most influentials in all rock history, not only in the rock history of Japan, if you see bands in China, Korea, et.c you'll see that their drummers are fans of Yoshiki.

Well, I guess not just Japan but in Asia. The reason to why I put that is because while Yoshiki is well-known in parts of Asia, he wasn't as influential in many countries like the Americas, Africa, and Europe. Sure, there are people in those continents that like him (and X-Japan as a whole), but it's not enough compared to the majority who hasn't heard of him or X. Su2000 01:16, 20 August 2006 (UTC)

That is something of a matter of opinion-- it can't be taken for granted that Yoshiki was THE drummer of Japan. It's safer to list him as 'one of' the most influential drummers. Emilyemergency 06:41, 6 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Rewrite

The article has been rewritten to conform better with WP:V and to fix some of the damage done by this recent edit. I use the word "damage" because the editor in question is a regular contributor to X Japan and was, at the time of the edit undoubtedly aware of the numerous references already available for that article. Why the editor failed to introduce them here, in order to preserve at least some of the information is quite puzzling. - Cyrus XIII 04:12, 19 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Removing information about X Japan

Hello, to all the members that are remving the information about X Japan, please check pages like: John Lennon, Paul McCartney why there we can add info about the band and here not? Please give an explanation, what happens? If we have to write about Yoshiki, we have to write from 1964-1982 and 1997-present, only this? Oh, he did lot of things during his time in X Japan but we can write it, how bad. Darkcat21 12:52, 24 January 2007 (UTC)

If you look at the Beatles sections in the Lennon and McCartney articles, you will find that compared to the entire text body, they are rather short. The articles focus on the artists because they are the subject, not the band they once used to be a part of. There is also not much sense in implementing redundant information for the sake of making an article longer, especially when it is either poorly or not at all sourced (which regrettably was the case with your recent additions). - Cyrus XIII 13:17, 24 January 2007 (UTC)
Yoshiki's time with X Japan was probably the most influential part of his life. His relationship with hide, especially, considering the fact that after hide's death, Yoshiki swore that he would never write music again. I think that it would be unfair to remove mention of X Japan from Yoshiki's biography, considering that his relationship with them helped significantly to shape the musician that he is today. I think a more professional and flattering picture is needed at the top of the page. I'm say it should be a picture of him dressed as a girl, when XJ was at the top of the game. Ok we have just uploaded Yoshiki's official Biography, and this comes from the company. The Extasy Recordings user was also official company property. We really want to try to keep the official Biography up. Pleasde don't delete it.

[edit] Injuries and Conditions

Would it be relevant to include information regarding Yoshiki's severe tendonitis (why he wears the gloves) and his severe back/neck condition he gained while in X Japan? I saw a documentary about him on Youtube as a special on the Japanese show 'Soloman Palace' where he explained that he must spend several hours in the gym each day to avoid being wheelchair bound as a result of it. Okay, hopefully I can bring people to the table to talk about this one, but I want to correct a mistake I've made. Mbe320 removed Yoshiki's date of birth from the article, and I reverted, with the reason that Wikipedia does not censor information just because someone doesn't like it. Mbe320 reverted my revert, and I reverted his reversion of my revert. Getting dangerously close to WP:3RR on both our parts. Mbe320 reverted again - and I'm not going to go looking at edit times because I don't want to report him even if he did violate WP:3RR; I'm just as much fault for this and I'm trying to stop the war without bothering admins. Enter Cyrus XIII who also reverted Mbe320's edit. I didn't revert Cyrus XIII's edit so much as modified it, but some might see me in violation of WP:3RR here too. Hopefully my reasoning is acceptable.

After my second revert, I went to check Wikipedia policy on Biographies of Living People for some backup since, at the time, I thought I was in the right. This is when I found the section on Privacy of Birthdays. In short, "When in doubt about the notability of the subject, or if the subject complains about the publication of his or her date of birth, err on the side of caution and simply list the year of birth" [emphasis mine]. And while I have no citation to back up Yoshiki's request for his privacy, I do recall that the band profiles in one of the album booklets I have has no information on Yoshiki, whereas everyone else's profiles had DOBs, blood types and so on.

So I've deleted the date, and left the year, as per Wiki policy. I hope this is an acceptable compromise for all of us. Harukaze 15:22, 9 November 2007 (UTC)

I am a deputy of YOSHIKI.(Sorry, I am not good at English.) Media of Japan are not making the age of the description on the birthday public now either. Describing the birthday for which we are not hoping It constitutes an invasion of privacy, and it will contradict the policy of wikipedia.

[edit] Date of birth privacy concerns

I have just removed the age of Yoshiki's birth as per (Japanese) スポニチ Sponichi Annex ニュース 芸能. Retrieved on 2007-11-14. and personal contact from and administrator [*points up at the above section* :)] at Yoshiki's official website. I've also got an album from X Japan where his information is censored - I believe I can cite that as well, once I learn how to cite a book [as, sadly, I've yet to have to do this]. I will make a small edit to the page as soon as I have time which mentions this fact, and includes the citation above [as well as the album's censoring], as how Yoshiki considers this information private. To all who react like I did intially, citing WP:CENSOR as a reason to revert this edit, please note that WP:BLP overrides it in cases where the living individual requests privacy.

On an unrelated note, what's up with the templates for {{(language code) icon}} just saying the name of the language? Not much of an icon, is it? Ah well.

Another thought... the title of the citation is in Japanese, which usually requires a {{nihongo}} template... but you can't put a template in a template. *ponders* Maybe a translation of the title is in order ["Sponichi Annex - Show Business News"]. I'll figure out the details by the time I update, or someone who has edited more Japanese-related enWiki pages can beat me to the punch. Following this discussion for a while now, I did a little digging around the web on the matter: It occured to me that many online news outlets routinely give the artist's age in brackets behind his name, as it is fairly common when public figures are discussed. While a single mentioning of a person's age alone is not enough to deduce a precise date or even year of birth, a few more certainly help narrowing it down. It so appears that Mr. Hayashi celebrates his birthday sometime between late October and early December, i.e. turning 37 in 2002,[1] [2] which suggests the year of birth being indeed 1965. (Further sources, taken from multiple outlets, all of them appearing reliable and consistent: [3] [4] [5] [6])

Since mentioning a year of birth alone is well in line with our privacy-related guidelines, not to mention that no reliable sources on the alleged confidentiality of the date have been presented, I have put the year (1965) back in. I will leave it to my peers to decide if and how this data should be sourced within the article.
