York Regional Road 48 is also called as Donald Cousens Parkway ("DCP" for short). It is named after former Markham mayor Donald Cousens. He retired in early 2007.

York Regional Road 48 is also called Markham By-Pass, as a "replacement" for the Old Markham By-Pass, which became a local route in the community of Cornell.
