Yoko Tsuno (character)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Yoko Tsuno is a fictional comic book character created by Belgian writer Roger Leloup. She is the main character of the Yoko Tsuno comic book series. She is an electrical engineer raised in Japan but now living in Belgium. She is quite compassionate and has a knack for making friends.
Yoko is also a skilled scuba diver, holds a black belt in aikido, and can pilot both gliders and helicopters. This wide range of competences, together with her near-flawless behaviour, makes Yoko fall into the classic category of a competent woman. The 'flaw' she does admit to having is valuing personal honour (as in keeping trust) very highly. She is also very decisive, often to the point of impulsiveness.
Yoko first meets Vic and Pol when they catch her trying to break into a laboratory in Le Trio de l'étrange. The moment the men confront her, the owner of the laboratory explains that he hired the Japanese girl to test a burglar alarm. Vic, planning to do an independent television production with Pol as the cameraman, asks Yoko to come along. This leads to their meeting with the Vineans and their lasting friendship.
Especially later in the series, it is hinted, especially at the end of Le Feu de Wotan, that Yoko and Vic are romantically involved. Leloup consciously left it at mere hints in order not to antagonise the readers who were more or less consciously in love with Yoko themselves.[1]
