YOKOSUKA, Japan (Oct. 17, 2004) - Sailors of Fleet Activities Yokosuka participate in a traditional Mikoshi parade, held annually in Yokosuka, Japan. Mikoshis are portable wooden Shinto Shrines that vary in size and are hand-carried through the streets. The Mikoshi Day Parade has been held annually throughout the streets of Japan for the last 28 years, and Sailors from Fleet Activities Yokosuka have participated in this event for the past 11 years with the ceremony ending on the base track field. Currently in port in Yokosuka, Japan, elements of the USS Kitty Hawk (CV 63) Carrier Strike Group demonstrate power projection and sea control as the U.S. Navy's only forward-deployed aircraft carrier strike group, operating from Yokosuka, Japan.
