[edit] Comedic career
Yoely Lebowits, or Pester Rebbe as some call him, is a popular figure in Hasidic Jewish communities. He lives in Monsey, New York. He got the name Pester Rebbe because of his talent of imitating the Hungarian Language, implying that he is from Budapest.
Lebowits started being a Badchen in 1997, by performing Comedy at his friends' weddings, then quickly became popular after acting the comedic role in the Yiddish play "Hamaloch Hagoel" in 1998.
In 1999 Lebowits debuted his first comedy album "Purim Y2K" with producer Yochi Briskman, that was followed by "Purim Station" in 2004. The album featured Yoely Lebowits and veteran comedian Yankel Miller.
What makes Yoely unique is his musical singing talent, which put him on stage with conteporary Jewish singers; MBD, Lipa Schmeltzer, Avraham Fried, Cantor Moshe schulhoff and many more.
As his popularity soared, Lebowits was hired to entertain at thousands of parties, dinners, Weddings and Sheva Brochos across USA, Europe, and Israel.
[edit] Inspiring Side
While he regularly brings the house down and splits everyones sides laughing, Lebowits is gaining fans for his inspiring songs as well.
He keeps his guitar in the trunk of his car, so it is always at hand for him to cheer up anyone. He infuses words of wisdom and encourgement in his act, like his alter ego, Rabbi Shlomo Carlebach.
Yoel Lebowits sings at hospitals, or for the homebound as well as for the people with special needs.
