Yoel Alejandro Hernández (born April 15, 1980 in Ciudad Bolívar, Venezuela) is a middle-relief pitcher in Major League Baseball who plays for the Philadelphia Phillies. Listed at 6' 2", 210 lb., he bats and throws right-handed.
According to Baseball America, Hernandez has the best slider in the Phillies organization. He signed in 1998 as a free agent and has been pitching for them since 2000, being added to the 40-man roster prior to the 2005 season. From 2000 through 2006, he posted a 34-36 record with a 3.45 ERA and 17 saves in 204 games at five different levels. In 2000, he was selected to the Gulf Coast League All-Star team.
Hernández started 2007 with Triple-A Ottawa Lynx, going 1-0, 1.74, 6, before joining the Phillies in May as a replacement for injured Tom Gordon.
