American Israel Public Affairs Committee

Hey Ynhockey, I thought you might like to know of this page. I feel in its current form it is almost entirely devoted to criticism of the organization. Much of the criticism is written in a very underhanded and shrewd method, for example, in its short "Supporters" section here is a quote by a congressman: "AIPAC plays valuable roles in expanding the pro-Israel communities in the United States, and in putting them in touch with those who influence the direction of American foreign policy". This excerpt fits in with what appears to be the writer's goal of showing that the group has undue influence and is basically a way for Israel to gain control of America's Mid East foreign Policy by proxy. What is now missing is the NPOV of the issue of Human Rights. The organization present itself as Human rights and against the exisrence of checkpoint.

While the behaviour of soldiers in the checkpoints indeed need to be fixed, the actual existence of the checkpoints ids to protect human Rights of Israelis (to prevent suicide bombers from reaching israel) - this secind part is not in the 1st paragrph reverted by Zero, Ian and Palmiro) and need to be added again. Opinion on "checkpoints"

Hi Yan,

In general opinion on checkpoints should be in a different article but there is an excpetion.

Machosm Watch wants the checkpoints removed. Machsom watch wants that until they are removed the human rights of the Palestinians are honored, which according to them is to just let anyone pass unhindred.

This ignore the need for the checkpoints and that is why view on the exitence of the checkpoints should go into the article: To Balance watch view that only palestinians desreve human rights. People of tel-Aviv and Petach Tikva alos derve to live in peace and the checkpoints on Highway 5 (before Rosh haayin) protect them. This view must get into the article. You know that if it was not for this checkpoint or the one near kalklia on highway 57 anyone from the west bank could just drive into israel. As for the nablus checkpoints (Hwara, Beit Furik, Beit Iba) this is a different issue (I agree with watch that those checkpoints should be dismentlled) Zeq 18:27, 11 March 2006 (UTC)

recent changes

Hi, a few issues: Your change from "Samarian region of West Bank" to "West Bank region of Samaria" sounds odd. Samaria is "in" the West Bank. Likewise, it doesn't sound right to say the British region of the Falklands since the 2nd noun is entirely a part of the 1st. It would be okay if you were to talk about the Argentinian region of the Andes, because that territory crosses borders. Otherwise, the world has no other way to describe the north west bank and the south west bank, except by Samaria and Judea.

The other thing was the inconsistant use of Ch for Chaim, yet single H for Hotze Shomron. Is there a consensus on how to spell the 'chet' in English? It seems that the 'ch' is the most common, but maybe that's a bad assumption? --Shuki 23:08, 18 March 2006 (UTC)

Don't translate literally into Hebrew from English or vice versa. The syntax is not the same. In any case, you 'could' say the eizor shomroni... but in Hebrew, it just sounds too much. If you just say the shomron, that is usually fine.

With POV, we have to deal with this 'logical' term called West Bank which the world has adopted even though there is no Arab translation, and no one here on wiki at aleast has been able to bring one forward. --Shuki 23:36, 18 March 2006 (UTC)

Good job on the Efrat disambiguation. I just clarified that it isn't in the Judean Desert, which is a separate region from Judea (הר חברון) or the Judean Lowlands for that matter (שפלת יהודה), although the first two do link to the same article. Perhaps there should be a seperate article for the Desert... Also, the Efrat/a naming is a longstanding argument between the residents/municipality and the Interior Ministry (פנים) [which expresses itself in the oddity that highway signs say Efrata, but internal signs say Efrat]. Order of interwiki links

I saw that you change to order of interwiki links on one page (BLEACH). I don't know if there is any official policy on the order but from what I have seen most articles list them by the order of the native names (see for example our George W. Bush). This is also how all interwiki bots that I have seen in work do (see for example this edit by YurikBot). Just informing you so that you don't make any useless moving around of interwiki links just to get them reverted. Jeltz talk 13:43, 24 March 2006 (UTC)

Just clarifying something. I havn't rverted any change of order of interwiki links and don't intend to. I'm interested in this because I want to know what orderd they should be put in when I add them myself. From what I have seen almost every page order them by the native names. "better" writing and Original research

Do you have the source I used infront of you ?

It is possible and I agree that your version is a better one (from english stand point) but it is no longer what the source was saying. He did not speak of "less nargenelized" nor did he explain about Muslims in Europe being "poor immigrants" (which I don't even know if true - could be but in the article "Israli Arab" there is no room for that discussion) - We need to stick to the source and this is what I did - translation and summary not my own thoughts.

Now, this section has turn into Original research which can not remain this way. we need to stick to the source and of course a better translation is welcome as long as it still what the source was saying and has nothing original.

IDF

Hi, hope you know something about IDF, perhaps you know the answer to my question on Talk:Operation Dekel? If it is as I suspect (that is: Sheva' Brigade = 7th Brigade), then I suggest we just make a Sheva' Brigade file with: #REDIRECT 7th Brigade. (Just to get rid of all of those red links). Do you agree?

Re: Deletion of Lunar Anime

Lunar Anime was nominated for speedy deletion by Timecop according to CSD A7, with the edit summary "vanity self promoting page about anime group. 100% original research as well.". Self-promotion is a common problem on CSD, and the article didn't have any references or sources outside of a link to the group's site. On the topic of 唼

Besides the rather apocryphal method of information gathering a la "I know that from a guy who told a guy I know" (also known as hearsay), do check the Wiktionary page on the offending hanzi/kanji. (I do think it's a hanzi, rather than a kanji in common use.) The "gobbling sound made by ducks" is, of course, impossible to render succinctly in English, but some sort of reference to feeding serves the purpose. ‹кндмцяд› ж «тдгк» 10:47, 8 April 2006 (UTC)

Redirect 'fixing'

Re this edit, you may wish to read Wikipedia:Redirects#Don't fix links to redirects that aren't broken. And that's before we even get onto the question of why the article is currently at a TYPOGRAPHIC CAPS location rather than a sensible qualifier... --zippedmartin 13:59, 8 April 2006 (UTC)

First of all, that's not a policy but a guideline, the reasoning behind which is that avoiding redirects by editing taxes the servers more. However, what if my reasoning is to bring consistency to the pages? It becomes completely unrelated to the guideline.

Regarding the other comment, the move from Bleach (manga) to BLEACH was indeed controversial (and I did not support it until the move was made), but in the end the consensus was to keep BLEACH, since it is spelled BLEACH everywhere, and was intended to be spelled BLEACH with all-caps, by the author. I think this may be the case with some other series as well, but Wikipedia policy does not say that all-caps are not allowed where they are warranted. However, it does clearly state that naming consistency must exist, and this is one of the reasons I changed many Bleach links to BLEACH.

Why confrontational? I didn't say it was a policy that you could be banned for ignoring, I said you might wish to read it. An edit for which the only purpose is changing an internal link target is just a bit pointless.

On issue #2, it's confusing typography with spelling, case comes under the former. In fact, you'll often see roman lettering written in all caps in Japanese text, this is largely because all three of their scripts are 'caseless', and it keeps the height of the line consistent. --zippedmartin 21:05, 8 April 2006 (UTC)

Hi, I noticed that you just signed up on our Wikipedia - I don't suppose you or someone else would be interested in writing a stub on the Hebrew Wikipedia on the language? Seeing you sign up reminded me that I had requested it on the Hebrew Wikipedia back in December, and though they said they would write it, it seems to have been forgotten. I corrected the article; one part that I changed from urbo di Israel to urbo en Israel wasn't incorrect to start, just a more usual wording. City of Israel vs. city in Israel. I guess I'll be seeing you on a few other boards as well - most Idists post on Yahoo! groups, on groups like idolisto, idoespanyol, idocatalaoccitan, etc. Also, the most comprehensive course in English is here in case you haven't come across it yet. One more thing

Here is one of the best places to read Ido that you are sure is correct; these are small news stories written every day or two by a French guy named Jean Martignon who is also the editor of the magazine Internaciona Kayereto. Here is where the archives are. There's also the magazine Adavane! which is published every two months, and the next one comes out in two days, so maybe print out one of those if you have any time to read when you're away on duty. Efrat/a

Hi Ynhockey,

On Hebrew Wikipedia, the name used is Efrat (אפרת), and the municipality's website (despite its URL, which is probably gov't issued and subject to the same treatment as CBS reports and intercity roadsigns) identifies it as Efrat. I'd like to suggest that we move it to some form of Efrat (either the main page, or in leiu of its occupation by the disambig, then "Efrat (municipality)" or something like that). While Efrata is certainly a correct name, I think that as a self-identifying entity, the municipality's wishes to be identified a certain way, Efrat, should be deferred to. Additionally, while it's not directly pertinent for this issue, the guidelines at Wikipedia:Naming conventions (Nutshell: Generally, article naming should give priority to what the majority of English speakers would most easily recognize, with a reasonable minimum of ambiguity, while at the same time making linking to those articles easy and second nature.) seems to favor Efrat (reinforced by the results of a Google search).

In terms of the disambig, I apologize for moving prematurely - I didn't realize that the move would take so long. However, I believe that most people searching for Efrat would want the settlement, and not the biblical place or other places named after it. If the Ephrath page was standardised to a spelling of Efrat, then perhaps they would have equal demand and Efrat would be a disambig, but in the meantime, perhaps we should just have an {Otheruses} tag on Efrat.

Popular Russian singers

Please stop categorizing all Russian singers as pop singers (e.g. Psoy Korolenko, Nikolai Fomenko). Russian pop is a well-definted genre and many (probably most) Russian singers do not fall under it. I am sorry if I have offended against some special definition of 'Russian pop'. That was not my intention. If that is your field I suggest you go ahead and make a specific category(ies). I would merely point out that categorizing all popular artists simply as 'Russian singers' is unhelpful to readers. Please go ahead and categorize them as you think is appropriate. Actually you offended in the fact that you put some good singers in the same category as pop ;) but anyway, not all Russian singers are easy to categorize. For example, Psoy Korolenko writes and performs his own songs, but does not necessarily write the music, and is too far from the Russian bard 'tradition' to call him a bard anyway. Or for instance, Maxim Galkin mostly sings parodies, but he has also sung some regular songs with Alla Pugacheva, so I guess he can be put into 'pop singers' and 'parody singers' at the same time, but that still does not encompass what Galkin does in singing (he basically sings whatever the studios tell him). The category Russian singers isn't very large (yet) anyway, so I don't think it's a problem yet. -- Ynhockey ^(Talk) 09:46, 24 May 2006 (UTC)

True, but look at it this way. They need changed to one of the two regardless, and the (manga) designation seems to be standard for other series. Furthermore, since we would have to change them anyway, if I start changing them now (especially the ones in the templates, etc.) when I have the free time, even if it's only a 50% chance of being right that means I have a 50% chance of having saved the rest of you a lot of work. Hi! Thanks for believing! I don't have the RAW anymore, so I can't send you the image, but is after Komamura and Tousen attack Zaraki. He says something like "...after receiving Benihiko and Tenken's attack..." or something like that. If you have the RAW you can confirm. Also, if you search other official sources, you will see that Tenken is aways called like this.

No problem. It's good to see articles nominated which coincide with my own interests. Anyway, about {{nihongo}}, see Template talk:Nihongo and Wikipedia:Manual of Style (Japan-related articles). The template just implements the Manual of Style standard for Japanese text and Romanizations. It's used all over the encyclopedia, and it just surprised me that such an important element of Japan-related Manual of Style compliance was missing from such a good article.
