Ylöjärvi is a town in Western Finland located 14 km from Tampere.
The town has a population of 23,035 (2005) and covers an area of 275.31 km² of which 77.02 km² is water. The population density is 109.4 inhabitants per km². The population has increased rapidly in recent years, in 1990 it was slightly over 18,000.
Ylöjärvi was founded as a municipality in 1869. Starting January 1, 2004 it is known as a town.
The municipality of Viljakkala will be merged to Ylöjärvi at the beginning of year 2007.
