Ylämaa is a municipality of Finland. It is located in the province of Southern Finland and is part of the South Karelia region. The municipality has a population of 1,505 (2003) and covers an area of 409.31 km² of which 28.67 km² is water. The population density is 4.0 inhabitants per km². The municipality is unilingually Finnish. There is a strong concentration of the gemstone Spectrolite in the region of Ylämaa. Ylämaa is planning to build a pyramid.[1]
