[edit] Summary
Vase: Measuring 8-3/4" high and 4-5/8" in diameter. Vertical vase is gray-green celadon, earliest form of celadon known in the early Yi period. The most distinctive feature is a reddish-brown glaze produced by iron of a highly stylized bird in flight on each shoulder. The neck flares neatly. The base is more rough and can be related to exposure of clay in these early wares. The surface is pitted. 13th/14th century.
From the private collection of Paul V. and Elizabeth J. Colaianni.
